So who cocked up the playing of Caravan of love last night then? All we got was a few lines after having to suffer the banal "Good evening ***** stand. Maybe should have been played in full just prior to the teams coming out?
yeah why not? bastard tried to change our name! I cant let this drop even tho' it was ages ago! a few months is a long time in football.
I agree completely about how they played the Caravan of Love. Do they really expect people to sing along when they just ram it down their throats before kick off? It needs a few months/years to build familiarity. Play it in full before the teams come out, but as late as possible. You can't impart a club anthem in one swoop.
I think it's another example of the people at the club not understanding City fans, and an element of that poor understanding is down to the poor advice they receive. They're not hearing from the right people in my opinion. On a positive note, it demonstrates that there's a desire to work with the fans, it just needs building on with better fan liaison.
They didn't run it past any sort of committee, they just got several emails from people who were on the ferry to Lokeren, suggesting they give it a go.
I didn't really like it. Maybe would take time to grow mind but it's no eye of the tigger. Maybe you have to pissed up on a ferry to appreciate caravan.
It was crap. I thought it would be and, to be honest, it was. The atmosphere was building, most of the people around me were singing Wise Men Say and then Caravan of Love came over the tannoy and it went silent again.
With some fine tuning I'd stick with it for the next 2 home games because both West Ham and Man City have very strong identities around what are basically **** songs, bubbles and blue moon. COL was lost on the Belgians but might show West Ham and Man City we are trying to find/build our own identity.
hardly an anthem - **** song, wrong timing, not passionate, not inspirational - please dont do it again - but they will
I didn't think for a minute they'd ran it passed a committee. They'd have a job as one doesn't exist. My point is that the end result wasn't as good as it could have been, and talking more closely to fans could have helped. The song's been tried on and off for years, as have several others. As someone that's initiated a fair amount of chants over the years, my view is it never really took off as it just fizzles out, it needs a loop to be a terrace chant, and these are better done organically. No harm in trying it, I just think the presentation wasn't as good as it could have been.
yeah lets all sing 'Falling in love with you' even tho' it belongs to several other teams too. then, depending who we're playing, the opposing fans can join in too!
Who are the right people then? Others suggest a committee: In my experience, the kind of people who want to be part of these committees are the kind of people who should never be on one. They're too blinkered and self serving. I certainly don't want to be represented by some sad-sack who spends 95% of his energy worrying about HCAFC. I'd rather be represented by a normal person with a normal life and normal problems to worry about. "Fans want this. Fans want that" - actually, most of the time, that's not what fans want: that's what they think fans want because that's what they want - and then they slag off the powers that be for not going along with them. They care too much - they're not capable of being objective. No committee is necessary and the process of suggesting something and trying it out is absolutely fine in my opinion. The end-product needs fine-tuning. For anyone who suggested it failed: while it wasn't loudly sung by any means, from E7, I could hear pockets singing it quite passionately from behind, forwards, left and right of me. I think it has potential. To say it failed after one go is complete nonsense. They just need to play the full song and play it earlier in the build-up to let it stew for a while (a long while), rather than ram a brand-new song, and a poor edit of it, down unprepared fans' throats right before kick-off. Did people really expect it to take off on the first night? Get real! I think the worst thing the club could do is bin it after one go.
I wouldn't disagree. I don't think committee's are the way forward for these things. It needs encouragement and support to enable things to happen organically, or it risks just being manufactured pap. There's plenty of tunes that could be used, but do we actually need "our" sone, or just things to chant? I wish I was in Dixie, with a tweak to Boothferry and/or City was used in the past with two verses linked by the chorus. Saying that, I'd tweak the presentation and stick with this for now. We need rid of the stand presentations and turn the DJ music down as well. Let the fans do it.
Cut the club some slack. Everyone was keen on it a few days ago when it was announced. It's a perfect song for us, let's make it work.
