On the back of a previous post, i just thought I'd give all the "Anti-Harry" mob a chance to explain to me/us, exactly why they dont like him.
Personally, I have no problem with him as being our manager this season, but it seems there is a large amount of posters who do.
I understand and accept that he's as bent as a "Van load of tele's" but i honestly dont know why some have it in for him or dont like him.
It cant all be because of our results or tactics or style etc, becaus there were a fair amount of people who dislike him before he even joined us. To me all we have to do is keep him away from the cash and brown paper bags and we be ok
So, come on all you "Non Harry Lovers" (Stan, Oslo, DT, PD etc...) Please explain what it is that makes you not like him. I HONESTLY & GENUINELY didnt think there were people out there who didnt like him when he joined.
I promise i wont try to mock or ridicule anything you say but i'd just like to know exactly what it is Im missing? Must be something because there are a fair few of you.

Over to you gys & girls. thanks <ok>

I liked Mark Hughes , Jim Magilton, Ray Wilkins and Paulo Sousa until they f**ked things up.

    Can't opinions change?!

Hes a dinosaur tactically, cant or wont coach, has lost all man management skills and has got dumb and dumber who I have not got a clue what they do?!!

He was a good Manager but does not seem to be enjoying his time with us and the sooner we bring someone (maybe Glen) in the better. As I have said before if he fails with this squad it is solely down to him and lacklustre, passionless, gutless and unimaginative performances will surely see him go!!................

I'm probably between 50% on him and 100% against depending on my mood and what he's doing.

My main gripe is his handling of the media - he might think it's a game playing with the press but he should realise that every word filters down to the fans. The overt snipes at players, the subtle digs at the board.

Also, the lethargy he displays - too many "wells" and shrugs - is it any coincidence that we did best when he was standing on the touchline barking orders towards the back end of last season? Now he just seems to slump as if he's watching a game he can't be bothered with but the remote control is just out of reach so might as well be in China.

I also think there's an underlying lack of belief in his abilities - young managers have conviction, experienced managers should have more. The change of formation was a brave one from someone who doesn't do tactics. Stick with it and play players in their best position. The squad are getting used to the 352 so why switch last night AND play folks out of position (there must be a youth team striker, a specialist forward who would be more suited that wingers and attacking midfielders).

The blind spots to certain players (Ale, Yun, Ned) always opting to include what would seem to be his favourites.

His lack of belief in youth.

    That's all for now.

Oh, and the fact that he gets ridiculously well paid and still needs to hire former England managers to do the coaching - I bet Sven is on the blower every day, saying he was a boyhood fan and it's been his dream to be coach for the Rs.

If we have managers who can coach working for him then what exactly does he offer above and beyond that?

Great post Matt, that pretty much sums up my feelings. I don't hate Redknapp, but at times he does frustrate me a hell of a lot.

I will also add one thing - whilst he got us promoted, which was an amazing achievement considering the squad we had when we went down, I am frustrated that we didn't take the chance to try and build a younger team this time last season rather than a team full of ageing pro's. It would have meant a much smoother transition this summer.

I had no strong feelings about Redknapp until he came to our club. Here are some of the reasons that I would rather he had never done so....

Since day one he has never given the impression that he was happy to be QPR manager.
He continued to pick Bosingwa after he refused to sit on the bench.
He threw in the towel way before we were mathematically relegated.
    His team selections are inexplicable.
    He doesn't do tactics.
    Nothing is ever his fault.
    He is a media whore.

    That's enough for now.

While he's at a different club he's an entertaining, old fashioned manager that tells it like it is, all while wheeling and dealing through his car window.

Now he's our manager he's a tactical dinosaur that talks too much to the press and is obsessed with signing new midfielders..

I find myself increasingly frustrated by his bad traits. The team seems uninspired and in a rut. I'd hoped the play offs and a new season would bring inspiration but the new season has started with a whimper. I hope for the sake of all of us the team and Harry start to make something good happen!

As a person I don't really dislike him, I like his humour sometimes, I liked that he offered Gazza a job, I think he is trying to do what he thinks is best for us as long as it doesn't get in the way of what he thinks is best for him (which like it or not is probably where most Mangers are), I don't like the lies he spouts which seem to serve some agenda he has,bla bla bla ...He's worse than some but not as bad as others. His personality is Not why I have wanted him out since about last March.

The problem is his performance as our Manager. I think he's been poor since the first January window after he joined us the November before, about 2 decent months. Since then I honestly cant remember watching us a play a decent game, where we managed to find each other with more than 2 or 3 passes in a row with any frequency, and I seen maybe 80% of our games- Ipswich away I missed when maybe we were good, won anyway. Against mid to low table Championship teams our good old boys at the back were good enough, but we get exposed against teams with some pace and creativity about them. His team selections are often amazingly poor to most observers, the last game one of many, remember relegation headed Blackpool at home where a win would have put us in touch with 2nd? He parked the bus almost. He doesn't seem to be able to coach, (needs McClaren, Hoddle) He doesn't seem bothered enough to go the extra mile for players who are difficult, he was probably better before when he was younger, but now he's a lazy old git basically. Maybe if there is a need his knowledge of the game and players would make him useful in some capacity at our Club, but he's not doing a good job where he is, and I'm not making that judgement on the 3 games this season , but on more than a year and a half now of under par performances from a team with the talent level to have done a lot better than Arry has got out of them.

Ok thanks all, Im trying not to think of the relegation year as he inherited a terible team with real problems both on and off the pitch.
    So we have:
The fact that he doesnt coach the team - agreed as reported by others
-He doesnt do tactics or is outdated - Jury is out on this one although he obviously needs help i.e. Hoddle, Maclaren etc. Lets see where we go with our new formation in the upcoming months.
    - His backroom staff are crap - For the life of me I have no idea what they do
    - He doesnt appear intrested in us or our club. - Im not sure on this. I agree he does seem very distant as stated, but I cant believe he doesnt want us to win. Surely he could have walked away (as i dont think he needs the cash)? I thought he started to look more intrested when wE won promotion and after getting the new guys in he seemed mor upbeat, for example at the open training session that was posted on here the other week.? IF managing a Prem team with decent players and a good budget doesnt excite him, then i dont know what will?
    - His handling of the media - surely this is omething that TF & Beard should be dealing with. You very rarely see Levy's men openly doing what HR does in the pres. Maybe thats why they got rid?
    - H doesnt offer anything to the club. - Ok as Oslo or Matt said, he doesnt have any specialist skill et that benifits us? On this point i have to say that i think only HR and a few select others could have got the targets that we have this sason.
    - He has his favourites and doesnt like youth - This was previously the case for sure, but loking at our lastest transfers i dont think we can level that at him anymore. Maybe thats because TF and Beard ran the show and final decisions.?

So it doesnt exactly make for great reading but he ha a pretty good CV when it comes to working in the Prem and achieving stuff with clubs. Surely it cant all be luck or done by ohers? He's smart enough to keep getting employed (why?) and ha achieved some decent performances in the past.
Also he has more contacts than anyone I could think of except SAF.
So for me the jury is still out and he (and the entire team) have "Stans legendary 12 games" to convince us that they are up to it. I'll support him as long as it looks like we making progress. I honestly dont expect much this weekend TBH, but i do expect to see a marked change following the International break where they have had time to get things right.
BUT.....I dont mind giving them a pointer if need be:

CLUE 1 - Put men on the f-ing posts at corners FFS. (edited from my 8yr old sons book "football for dummies")

Read his book, two traits stood out to me. One was that I got the impression he feels he was an inferior player to a modern premier footballer and this make him doubt his own coaching abilities or more likely he thinks the players wont take him seriously if they don't like his coaching methods. Couple this with the accepted knowledge that he doesn't do tactics and it looks like another Teflon tactic. The other noticeable highlight was his perfectly understandable disgust at the wage of a modern footballer names were not mentioned but the feeling of SWP retiring in luxury while Bobby Moore had in his retirement to get by on writing match reports for a local rag was just between the lines.

I look at Harry and think he knows the problem, but between player power and golden contracts he believes his hands are tied. Maybe they are maybe there not, but the press conference digs seem very deliberate to me.

    Interesting observations Rhino.

I'd suggest there might be some internal conflict raging between a love of the game and competitive streak and his revulsion at the modern age of football. You can care without boundless enthusiasm but it's not going to instill enthusiasm in those around you.

Queens - I agree re. the contacts and am still happy with the players he's brought in. I also quite like the man as a sort of mumbling football equivalent of Columbo. Some of his comments about the club and his commitment to it still raise a question mark (and wouldn't be acceptable if said by a player).

Interesting comments about his view/respect for people in the game. He, like many of us, has a clear disdain for the overpaid and molly-coddled modern footballer. While his respect for the owners has come through countless times, perhaps recognising the hard work that they are putting in for the club.

Harry is old-style, no doubting that. But it must be ridiculously hard in this modern game dealing with overpaid players with poor attitude (SWP? AT? et al) and having your hands tied through contracts (which during his reign has been the biggest problem and has resulted in so many leaving the club this off season and the annual re-build).

I see nothing wrong with him surrounding himself with successful people/staff (McLaren, Black, Hoddle). Standard, and successful, business practice. Bringing additional coaches in seems too be popular with the players too with a change of routine and focus on developing/improving players which seems to be often lacking at the club.

People make valid points on Harry's 'faults' (heaven forbid we were all perfect), but he is here (and going nowhere right now) and I do believe he is trying to re-build the squad with proper players (of the right type?). Harry has a strong work ethic (he must to cope with the demands of a premiership season) and he will be well aware that he needs to make a success of this season, for the club as well as his own ego - he won't want everybody remembering the end of his career as a failure.

All said, I would like to see more enthusiasm from him. I do think he is working hard to get it right and time will tell if he can pull it all together. Everyone has been impressed by the signings he has managed so far. The worry is whether in our first season back the change of system will see him bite off more than he can chew. In the meantime I am giving him my support for the club I love and hoping that he succeeds. I guess time will tell, and time isn't something the EPL is kind in giving.

My only care is for the club and I’ve long had doubts about whether he is good for the club.

I disagree that he’s a good manager. I don’t really think he’s a manager. He spends him time avoiding responsibility. 4 wins in 27 games as our premier league manager which despite the initial difficulties he had when taking over is beyond a joke for someone being paid £3m a year!!

He spent £23m in the January 2013 transfer window and showed no inclination for thinking beyond the 4 ill fated months that followed. The only signing made that played for us after the inevitable relegation was Jenas. I remember at the time saying it was at that point he should have signed likes of Austin, Cresswell and Birdcutt.

After the failure in the prem- he took a short term approach, again with little thought beyond the end of the season, which we got away with (cant argue we didn’t because we won in the playoffs and could easily have lost those one off games). Achieved the bare minimum considering money spent and quality of players retained and got into the play offs playing for the most part pretty dire football. In the lottery that was the play offs our luck was in.

The short term approach has meant yet again we have had a large turnover of players into this season. Now while I think the signings made are good individuals we are all aware that a large turnover of players can make it hard ‘to gel’ and also for the fans to connect with the players and vice versa. This is especially so in a new system of 3-5-2.

Now we need some points on the board to and quickly and fingers crossed things may well take off because we have some very good players and I’ll be delighted but at this moment I think he underperformed after he arrived in the prem. He underperformed in the championship and in the short time of this season has underperformed again.

Add to all of this he never takes on responsibility. Pre-season failure he insuates was someone elses fault. He could and should have taken control had final say over this. It’s not as if we went on a commercial tour to Asia and it was out of his hands.

Unlike with Hughes where a lot of criticism against him was based on hindsight HR’s repeated mistakes are often called as or before he makes them. His team selections, ostracising of some players and repeated chances for other players have been called as wrong on many times by lots of fans and then gone on to be proved right.

As has been pointed out his lethargy and lack of enthusiasm for the club, which showed up last year and unsurprisingly he admitted as much because he would have retired last year. He gets more excited and passionate talking about other clubs on talksport every 2 minutes than ours. And he is so overpaid its unbelievable. He doesn’t do the coaching, he doesn’t organise pre-season. Last year he couldn’t even be asked to do the post-match interviews. He claims the signings are down by the board and out of his hands so it seems he is paid £3m a year to just pick the team which is something most of seem to do a better job of than he does!!

4 points in our next 2 games and I’ll get off his case but up to now I think he’s achieving a C grade as our manager.

    This...well said Peter....

Plus you can add the decision to play our most creative midfielder, in what to Harold was a meaninless mid week cup tie which has resulted in him doing his ACL for the 3rd time and probably finished his career.....

A tad presumptuous and certainly a smidgen of pretentiousness here Queens -
Doubt very few Brits of any walk of life would not enjoy a glass or two listening to one of the most engaging of raconteurs. The man is working class and as I've stated previously on other threads, comes from a World not filled with luxury and appreciates the value of it. He will undoubtedly work till he drops.
You're amazed at the amount people in the anti Harry brigade - Yet then you point out results and tactics - I'm being a hypocrite here seeing as I do dislike Barton for his previous "misdemeanors" but financial creativity has never bothered me. It's the tactics or lack of them even more then the results, it's the lack of strategy, it's the lack of passion and motivation to which he was definitely in the higher echelons until he wrongfully missed out on the England job.

Do any of us think that anyone in their right mind wants to fail - of course not.
Is Harry an old school decent man sharing most of our own morals - most likely.
Superb, engaging raconteur - I'd love to share a few G&Ts with him.
Does he have it in him to be a fantastic football manager - I'm afraid, those days have long since passed in my opinion

Did he manage to get us up - Yes, but so did Mr. Taraabt but it seems obvious that isn't working. Sometimes you just have to call it before you reach the bottom. Or gamble.

But some of us feel there has been enough gambling with our club already - Yes 2 games this season, 25 the previous Prem season - 4 wins.

As Beth says - Toxic club at that time, now, not so toxic, but same results.

Ask yourself this - Go down this Season, God forbid, where do you see it going then?

But to be fair that injury to Ale seemed like it could jave happened anywhere, anytime. For the Club IF it was going to happen anyway, it was better it happened against Burton now, than next week after the window shuts.
