Evening, Attivo, everyone. I've rather got out of the habit of posting lately, but when I saw only 12 replies on today's thread, I began to realise that if the site is to stay economically (cookie) viable, we idle sods have to stand up and be counted. Here are a few random notes to get things rolling:

    * TUPI in the Stonehenge Listed 2yo race at Salisbury tomorrow will be my first serious bet for some weeks. The Sweet Solera form doesn't encourage me towards Winters Moon (the ground turned the race into a slog, and I doubt if there was a good horse on view there), and Elm Park's Newbury maiden looked OK but without much depth. I accept that it depends how good you think Highland Reel is (potentially top-drawer, imo) but Tupi's run behind him and his subsequent Deauville race look much the best credentials to me. Chuck in that Hughesie rides Salisbury about a stone better than anyone else (bar maybe Fallon in his heyday) and I'd say that if you can beat about 6-4, Tupi's a good bet.

    * Can I rant about Attheraces' habit (and they're not alone) in labelling tomorrow's 4.45 at Sandown the HWFA Williams Handicap, as if HWFA were some acronym for an obscure regional football association. Hwfa is a (very) old and distinguished Welsh personal name - meaning, I think, something like 'wise owl' - and the Hwfa Williams after whom the race is named was general manager of Sandown Park racecourse in the 19th century; in fact, he may have been the very first one, and his wife was widely regarded as the best-dressed woman in England.

    * these are bleak days to be a Palace fan. Just when you think you've turned a corner, and found yourself a competent - if unromantic - manager, it all goes tits up. Neil Warnock (or 'Colin' as he's amusingly dubbed by the Anagram Club at the Sainsbury's end) is an advance on Holloway, but that's not saying much. Long, dreary winter ahead, I fear.

Ste doran I lived in Dubai for 4 years so anything you need to know just ask; Meydan is a beautiful course but you cannot gamble on the track (and you are not officially allowed to gamble in the UAE at all). Agree the racing of late has not inspired comment and that along with the holidays may be contributing as well.

Ste - I was there last year .. massive track - visually very impressive .. but relatively soul-less given the obvious lack of trackside gambling and the range of emotions that it generates ! you can get a beer no problem - best do your bets on the internet before you go or download one of those cunning apps that 'disguises' your IP address and allows you to ge tout to PP or many other well known internet gaming sites ..
If I remember correctly there were buses to get you tghere back (free) to / from the city .. be sure you know which gate you are expected to turn up at .. its a long walk if you go the wrong way ... ps - I liked the pzazzzz of the old Attivo ... and the'heat rather than light ' it generated ... its good we are all different ..

You will have to give some feedback as I am going at the end of Feb. LG, what would you do in Dubai if you had three days?

To get the 'daily thread' back to its former glories there needs to be far more discussion about what people had for their lunch / dinner (delete as appropriate). In the old days, on the BBC site, this was always more important than the gee-gees running round in circles!

And what better day to commence discussions than 'Fishy Friday'!

Indeed SBC .. we march / interact on our stomachs .. Butchers bacon (not that supermarket laser cut crap) + 1 egg (yolk only) for my breakfast .. planning Mackerel on toast for lunch as an homage to 'Fishy Friday' and then an early evening dalliance @ my local ... for a couple or 3 Robinsons' Dizzzie Blonde ... oh and a bet or two during the day .
