Meyler and Livermore were just not good enough in a 4-4-2 to boss the midfield today. And a general comment. It's really concerning how **** we are at winning the second ball from set pieces. We half clear the ball and more often than not, the opposition pick it up in a dangerous position and in acres of space. We are forever scrambling to get it clear.
I agree, if we had had Huddlestone in there in the first half would have made all the difference, just goes to show how important he is. They bossed the mid field, and deserve their win. By the way the ref was absolute ****e.
Great stuff Mr Kempton. Finally got a Positive to smile about Are you going to away games this season ?
On the night HC didn't cut enough to hurt Lokeren. The away goal was not decisive for your exit. The game of last week was so, not scoring in Daknam and giving away such a goal, made this happen. Hope you'll catch up against Villa and hope to see you soon again in Europa.
Even though I wasn't impressed with your team's antics tonight I find myself taking a liking to Lokeren and wish you all the best in the groups. Your fans are absolutely brilliant.
You are right we lost it last week, but frankly were poor tonight, and you were the better team. Good luck and enjoy the journey in Europe.
As some one who has had consecutive season passes for several years when I was working and who has also experienced a period without a sufficiently well paid job, I concur with what you said. I managed to get to tonight's game and was frustrated particularly by the way we started the second half. Seemed slow off the mark and allowed Lokkeren to take the initiative, which they did by equalising on the night. Like everyone there we hoped that at 2-1 we could get the other goal that we needed. The ref didn't help with some what seemed to my eyes as harshly penalised fouls. But onwards and upwards, lets kick on and get all the new faces integrated so we can have a good season in the Premiership and maybe have a run in one of the cups.
I just hope lokeren don't get a huge group if they draw celtic I will literally cry my eyes out even though the ****ty pot system wouldn't have us in the same place
I really don't get this, what's special about Celtic? There's so many teams I'd rather be drawn against. If we hadn't ****ed it up of course.
The Lokeren fans were brilliant, apart from those idiots at the front, who turned their back to the game,so they could goad our fans. Why would anybody travel from Belgium and back, and not watch the game ? Weird....
Agree with that, they shot at every opportunity whereas we tip tapped it about, really frustrating. There were numerous times when we had shooting chances but just passed it around. Their No.20 ran the show, thought he was awesome. Back to reality now, come on you 'Ull on Sunday, let's get 3 more points on the board.
I think there was a lot of naivety on our part this evening. A lack of european experience for both the team and the manager cost us. We went ahead early and it looked like the whole team really didnt know what to do from that point. Do you attack and try and score again but risk conceding an away goal or do you sit back, control the game and hope to score another goal later on but risk it going to extra time. We seemed to do neither really and in the end it cost us. A lot of teams struggle on their first experience of european knockout football. It is a completely different game to normal league and cup football in terms of tactics etc. I absolutely hate the away goals rule and always have done. It is a crap and outdated rule that should have been scrapped years ago. Travelling doesnt really make a difference anymore. Russian teams travel further to play each other than teams do in the europa league yet they dont have an away goals rule. Lokeren won a game by one goal and we won a game by one goal. Both teams were equal yet we go out cos they happened to score a goal at our stadium. It also leads to negative football as teams are desperate to keep it tight not concede rather than try and playing an open game and trying to score. Having said all that, we completely lost our shape after the Sagbo sending off and too many players had an off day. I don't think Bruce's team selection was to blame. The side he picked should have been more than good enough to win that game by two goals but it was not to be. Also, at the end of the day, if us going out tonight means we have a better season in the premier league then i will be happy.
McGregor was a big part of this result in the end, awful error. But ultimately we are still building a side here and it looks it. Because of the inequality in our league most teams don't even consider a squad for Europe because they know their chances of getting there aren't high anyway. Only a few sides really develop that experience and can plan for it.
