What has it come too ,a player that has not produced at international level on the big stages being made captain of his country. A chap that has cheated on his wife and kids by having it away with a prostitute or two. A good example of a new captain of the national side. It really does make sence why the national side is in such a poor state. Sends out the wrong signals to youngters around the country. Roy Hodgeson what are you doing offering the lad the captaincy.
There are people on here who would welcome Mickey Maynard back. Rooney has done bugger all in comparison to annoy me. Even half decent at times for England.
Rooney 96 Apps for England and scored 40 goals, 5th highest goalscorer of all time.. Name......................Apps.......................Goals Bobby Charlton.........108........................49.. Gary Lineker.............80.........................48.. Jimmy Greaves..........57.........................44.. Micheal Owen............89.........................40.. Wayne Rooney...........96.........................40.. I think Rooney has done alright for England.... http://www.englandfootballonline.com/teamgoals/Goals_10-49.html
Wouldn't have picked Cahill, so the only other choice was Hart- As Roy says, it would be difficult to overlook Rooney- Just wonder if that will give added pressure or not
There is no real leader in the England squad, no typical English defender wearing his heart on his sleeve. Terry should've gone to the World Cup as captain.
Agree with you he should have been there and leading that shambles of a team. Since Hodgeson has taken over we look third rate. The 20000 tickets sold for the next Wembley game says it all.
In fairness to our Woy, who the feck else is there? Only Joe Hart and is he really ready, another 2 years and we might see someone come through. Anyone who truly thinks Cahill is Captain material clearly didn't see the World Cup, the guy is useless and has only ever looked mildly competent at international level when he had had JT next to him, to rip in to him.
Given what he has at his disposal I don't think Roy Hodgson could have done much more? In terms of captaincy who else is there? The player has to be certain of playing - apart from Rooney that only leaves Hart - do keepers make good captains? Not just Roy who thinks he's a captain - Mr VanGaal has also made him captain
Hang on a sec RR, you had a go at Rooney for his off field antics but then a couple of posts later you're backing Terry for the job. Double standards methinks
The one, the only, David Beckham.... Not a leader of men, not the captain of any club he's ever played for, and showed no leadership skills, ever.....so he was well positioned to be captain of his country FFS ! TWAT
I personally don't understand this concept of picking a captain before you have picked the squad. So, what? Now Rooney is an automatic pick for every game despite the fact their are plenty of Forwards playing better than him at the moment, and have been for the last 5 years? How can the FA take away the captaincy from John Terry, and give it to someone 100x worse? Roy Hodgson is such a prat, and a bumbling geriatric. He should have called it a day after sacked by Liverpool. I cannot support my nation when I fundamentally disagree with EVERYTHING they do from top to bottom in terms of setup! For the millions and millions spent, we have very little to show, except a few bright sparks, that will soon fizzle due to disgusting attitudes, over inflated ego's and over hyped by the media. We have been frog leaped by Costa Rica and Bosnia, (next up will be Scotland), in terms of team spirit and talent! Happy clappy fans don't help either!
For me, England is in turmoil right now. A major upheaval is needed. However, I think Woy knows that he's not the man to do it, and the players at his disposal aren't good enough. There's little he can do about it. Rooney is still a good player for England. He can't do it in big tournaments, but clearly no one else can either. What annoys me is that Rooney might take away a deserving place in the squad from a forward, like Sturridge. What I would like to see is Woy push Rooney into midfield. It's an area we are desperately lacking in, and as much as it pains me to say this Rooney is probably the most creative player England have right now. If Rooney can adapt to a midfield role then he's guaranteed a start, his goal record won't be laughed at as much, and will open up places for upcoming strikers that need good delivery.
