There's no way any club would sink to faking a family bereavement to cover for a player being sold. That "unknown" guy is clueless.
That sounds right. Although I'm pretty sure we were linked with Ciani last season, so it might just be a rehash.
Metro Sport ‏@Metro_Sport 1m Aston Villa make £8m offer for Manchester United's Tom Cleverley: http://ow.ly/AOVOH
£8 million?!?! He's barely worth £80 quid. One of the least inspiring signings of the summer for Villa. He has no vision, not a particularly great touch and only ever passes backwards!
Where have they suddenly found £8m from? They've spent the rest of the window penny-pinching and have a pretty thin squad. Now they're going to drop £8m on Cleverley? He's only got 12 months on his contract too!
DM are saying we've had a £1.5m bid for Miquel accepted. Seems unlikely as that is a big price for him, I'd have thought. Can't be worth more than £500k IMO (otherwise known as a 1-bed flat in the Highbury stadium development...)
£1.5m? please, please be wrong! i think adams has been very canny so far in the market but this would be a total waste of money. i doubt he'd ever get a game and if he did, i'd be more concerned than when zesh rehman was our centre half
Tried to a bit of homework at lunch as I know nothing about him, so I e-mailed a couple of mates who are Gooners, the two I got a response from do have amazingly over inflated opinions of their beloved clubs 'Greatness' and misguided sense of Arsenals place in the footballing world, but here are the verdicts: -His bang average but should be reasonable in the championship depending on the quality he plays against. -Miquel is a decent young player, he's not been able to break through. Should be a good signing if you get him. One of the directors who is a big Arsenal manager said his cultured and can pass, but there are certain elements of Mertasacker to his game e.g. not the quickest of the bunch, can be caught out of position and more then capable of making big mistakes. Also collared a Leicester fan who said he wasn't that bad for them whilst on loan.
if we really do want miquel (and it comes from a reliable source) then loan him for the season. do not pay for him
Seems unlikely there'll be a loan deal with only 12 months left on his contract at Arsenal, they wont want to loan a player only to have him go for free when he returns.
I really don't see how he's needed. Callam-McFadden looks like a decent prospect and obviously Ryan Bennett is still fairly young and been pretty unlucky not to cement a place in the team. Cueller is here for a year and more than good enough as back up so is he required? Just bring in a short term loan to cover Bennett's injury and bring in a right back. As Supers said though, Adams has done good business thus far, but I do think a right back is more important than a centre back atm. The Martin Turner partnership is shaping up well so would be annoying if that gets interrupted due to Whittaker being injured or out of form.
I'm afraid, 1950, that messageboards have spawned an era of football messiahs from the comfort of their computer chairs. Not one of them has played the game at the highest level, but that doesn't stop them telling those who have just exactly where they are going wrong. I think perhaps, we're a bit too old for this game mate!
i don't get the hate for whaittaker at all. its not up for debate that he is poor defensively but my god he's good going forward and at this level he could well end up being a key player. his surging runs are electrifying at times. i think martin is the better right back overall, mainly because he is much better defensively and pretty good going forward; a safer pair of hands you might say, but why over-egg whittaker's (non) ability? he's a talented player who would waltz into most championship sides i imagine.
