    Agree 1 million percent.

Easily our best player, and gets slaughtered for it, if the team around him wasn't so inadequate we wouldn't see every single thing Rooney does being scrutinised.

The melt down on here is worse than I thought it would be.

Rooney is a good player mate, can't fault that

But he concentrates on his own game and he will be better

Don't think he is a leader by any means, keeping a team organised I don't think he could do it

Whilst technically on another level, Catts can organise, even Cahill would of been a better option as captain imo

Just watching SSN...it would appear he has based his opinions on Colback on 2 games and also the 'Ginger Pirlo' comment....<doh>

I just don't see Rooney as captain material...You can't fault his will to win and effort, but I think an England captain needs to be an inspirational figure and team spokesman off the pitch as well as on, and in my opinion Rooney falls way short in this department..

I personally think that Colback deserves it.

Can't comment on Cattermole because haven't watched you lot this season but as you say, with respect to both Cattermole and Colback if England harboured any real ambitions to win a major tournament then they shouldn't really be in and around the squad.

It's not that bad here. Enough bright sparks on here to know what's going down. RTG on the other hand...... ;)

If Colback deserves it, Catts deserves the FIFA presidency.

Not often that an England International get's snapped up on a free transfer though. I mean some English players (even those that haven't play a game for the best part of 18 months) can cost up to 10 million <whistle>

As I said, his ball retention is good and as such he's probably worth a punt, but Cattermole should have been a shoe in for this, he's been the best English midfielder by a distance for the last 12-15 games, the lad has become a proper, proper footballer.

He captained the u21's so it's not as if he's not known, it bites of his past reputation, one the southern press still hold, holding him back.

He is in a different league to any other English holding player.

Barkley/Lallana etc will get in before Colback/Catts tbf

However it just seems strange how as soon as he gets into the media suddenly England pipe up...

Especially with Hodgson basing his knowledge on him from 2 games and a 'Ginger Pirlo' comment from a daily fail writer...

Well given that the squad has been picked based only on two league games then yes I am.

Why? Because he's had two decent games for you? Cattermole has had a far more impressive 2014 than Colback. I can only conclude that he hasn't been watching Sunderland

And the motto of the story is: get out of Sunderland if you want to play for Engerland! Feck me I don't believe it, another media hyped selection? Was it his performances for us over the last two years or his performances for them over two games then? Un fecking believable.

Even more shockingly, Newcastle players can now get into the England set up!!! Like yourselves, we normally get cast aside <laugh>. The North East in general gets ignored by the Southern media!

Deserves it on what? His games for us? His cameo performances for you? Be careful and think about your answer mate.

A 2-0 defeat at home, and the most boring, least imaginative, dreary, monotonous 0-0 draw against a team set up to soak up pressure and hit on the break?

****ing hell, Woy is a reet plum.

But it does throw up one interesting question, as a lot of SAFC fans think Colback ranges from ****e to bang average.

Are Newcastle a bigger draw to the England manager? We often harp on about players getting picked from the top lot..well.
