Deary, deary me. The debate goes on. Some of you guys just can't seem to see the light, can you? How much is a ST at Man Utd - £1400? Arsenal - £1600? Chelsea £1600? Etc etc. How much is a season ticjet for the Swans - £479. So, for people living in Wales supporting these Premier league clubs, what's their best option at watching premier league clubs play - In Swansea. Tbh, the plastics thing is gone now. It's more the fact that our beloved Swans are being "supported" just for a way of watching big teams. I know of 40 IRISH people that bought ST's (Living in Ireland) ecause its easier and cheaper to get on a ferry on the Swansea - COrk line than it is to get on a ferry to say Liverpool and then travel to Manchester. I also know of 2 Cardiff fans (Went to Wembley) than have purchased them just because they enjoy football and want to see PL teams. So the argument isn't about being plastic, or real, the argument is about the fact you guys think we will keep these new 10 thousand fans if we get relegated. Because at the end of the day, if we go down, we need the support to get us back up. I for one am willing to place a £500 bet that ST's next year will reach the 10K mark should we go down.
We don't care JackAsh, that's more the point. You reckon there's 10,000 people who aren't going to meet your definition of a "real fan", I'd argue the type of people you talk about won't number more than 500 and most of the other tickets that got sold so quickly went to people who've watched the Swans a lot over the years anyway, and all this labelling achieves is splitting the fan base. How would you feel as, say, a 15 year old who's just bought his first season ticket, and then you come online to find "real" fans giving you abuse because you're plastic? Give it a rest!
Indeed. Most of the new season ticket holders I know are either those who like me only get to 10 or so games a season for one reason or another but knew that if they wanted to do that this year would need a ST (I didn't get one BTW, can't make Saturday afternoons very often and with few midweekers I probably won't see more than 6 games) or they are friends/family members of current ST holders.
i have been a season ticket holder for 30 years, i canât wait for them to make the liberty bigger as i have five and two year old grandsons who idolise the swans who will be ready for season tickets in a year or two, so roll on the plastic i can't wait to see shiny new plastic seats at the liberty.
Whilst I feel sorry for anyone who wanted a ST but was too late to buy one, the fact of the matter is they were "too late!". In my opinion anyone who wanted a season ticket could have bought one , they just needed to do so BEFORE wembley (I bought mine in march using staged payment plan - as I have done year in year out), otherwise it was obviously going to be first come first served. I commiserate with the fans that are only able to go to a few games a season due to other commitements e.g. work , but the club is entirely within their rights to sell the maximum amount of ST it can. Also the ST are good value so it would have still been cost effective to get a ST even if you could only go to 50% of the games. And to those fans unable to afford the season ticket before Wembley, again I sympathise but the club cannot sell ST depending upon when you can afford it! The club also has schemes for part payments so if this is really the issue , why didn't the fans take up the staged payment plan. Ultimately fans who have ST are still fans. Fans who do not have ST have to be first in the queue to buy the few thousand matchday tickets. Finally , I also do NOT agree with all this new , old , real fake , plastic name calling. I refer to all scenarios above as fans....nothing more , nothing less and I welcome all fans of Swansea City. (I do however agree with the post above re wearing of other teams shirts in teh home seats... but I would go as far as to say this applies to Adults and older teens. Young kids should be allowed to wear the "populat shirts - but we should encourage them to switch main allegances over time... they will only after one or two games! - Parents its up to you!)
Some on here are really deluded, if any of you think that this swell in numbers is all down to new Swansea fans joining the fold, then your more stupid than I thought! I welcome any new support for our club, and as swans above has posted his example, that is great, and to be encouraged, but don't be so daft to conclude these increase in numbers is all down to the example that 'swans' has given here! Nottage agree with some of your points, though not all. please log in to view this image
The majority of the increase is not purely down to NON swans fans wanting to see the away teams. This in my opinion is a minority. In my opinion the Majority of the increase are fans who have previously had a passing interest , but the bright lights of the premiership has kicked them into action. I know quite a few lucky "fans" who managed to queue and get ST after wembley as Wembley itself excited them AND more importantly their kids. So I firmly believe that we have a chance to welcome a NEW GENERATION of Jacks! Yes a lot of them will go away agian IF (not when) we fail to maintain premiership status, but a lot will stay aroung and be lifelong Jacks! And Dragon phil , I am not deluded enough to think that none of the increase is not as you state , but in my opinion it is not any where near a majority of the new fans. I would also like you to re-think about statements such as "YOUr are more stupid than I thought". If I was to take your stance I would have thought a comment about a persons opinion is more appropriate than a comment about the person themself i.e. such as "Your opinion is stupid". This is much less aggressive. Ultimately though , this is a free forum for all , and therefore you are entitled to insult others as you feel, so freedom of speech and all that.
I don't care Scotty, that's more the point! Nottage hope your getting my drift too.................... please log in to view this image
DPJ As I told the school bullies when I was a nipper "sticks and stones may break my bones , but names will never hurt me".......and I was right....it was sticks and stones from that day on....!!!!!!!!! lol
Because I new you'd bite Scotty dear! Now give Ash a break he's having a well deserved moan!.......................... please log in to view this image
Hardly biting, just don't appreciate being called deluded because I was defending the general publics right to buy season tickets. I don't expect a coherent reply, I'll just imagine the "haha, you bit, have some comic sans and a smiley" standard response
I think Nottage has it spot on. (Although I would say the bulk of new season ticket sales has come from fans who bought tickets on a week-by-week basis but then realised if they didn't buy a season ticket they'd never get in, and I include myself in this group). At the risk of incurring the wrath of Dragon and Jackash, I'll describe my own process in becoming a Swansea supporter. I'm not Welsh and haven't lived in Swansea all my life. I was quite content watching 'Match of the Day' and Champions League on TV for most of my life. I don't know a great deal about Swansea City's history either other than what crops up on here. I was vaguely aware Swansea were moving up through the divisions and sat up and took notice when they reached the Championship. I decided to start going to the odd game, and I must admit it was just as much about seeing a better quality of opposition as it was about seeing Swansea to begin with. However, it soon became apparent that the Swans were playing extremely attractive football and after a few months going to the Liberty became an obsession. I've pretty much been to every home friendly, cup game and league game since, including of course Wembley (and a trip to Wigan!). Well, sorry to bore the pants off you with my history, but it does show that people who like football generally can become new (die-hard) fans but it sometimes takes promotion and the opportunity to watch 'top' teams to kick it off.
More importantly, aswan... have you got the obligatory "SCFC TIL I DIE" tattoo on your forehead? You're not allowed into the "real fans" clubhouse without one...
