Are we seeing another side to MM?

    Just read report on a change could be in the offing for our backroom staff. It appears MM may be interested in David Kerslake and Richard Collinge.
    Can we really blame Kerslake if he goes after all he did get overlooked for Woan?
    All the same it makes me have second thoughts about MM after his attempt to get SD.
    If it does come about we lose a number of staff to MM how would other fans feel about MM?

    When a manager moves to a new club, he's obviously going to want to get his own backroom team in. Sean Dyche has poached Woan from Pompey, Malky will probably try to take a couple of our guys to South Wales - its part and parcel of football, nothing to get worked up about.

    Frankly id be much more concerned about him attempting to sign Cowie, but as long as he goes about it in a respectable manner and is made to pay the full value (if it comes to that), then i have no problem.

    Not wishing to slag the man off, but I don't think Kerslake really matters. I'm sure he's good at his job, but decent coaches are ten a penny. The important thing is to retain at least one senior person for continuity, and we have that in Sean Dyche.

    Collinge would be far more of a hit.

    Agreed, but losing Collinge is a blow. History has proved that a manager needs to trust the head of the medical staff.

    If Collinge goes Dyche will need to replace him with a knock-on effect.

    I have it on very good authority that MM is trying to poach staff and players - Woan is obvious, he is one of SD's best mates....

    This ones pure rumour but may be well founded. Terry Burton being let go might be worth bringing back.

    I remember Terry Burton from TV interviews deputising for Ady Boothroyd, seems a reasonable chap.

    W_Y completely off topic here but I lost my "Eat a peach for peace" t-shirt years ago only to encounter it again all washed, pressed and being worn by the other half. She had hidden it away to take to her brother as a present - as if he would even know who the Allman Brothers Band is/was!

    I'm surprised football clubs don't seem to insist on non-dealing/solicitation clauses when a manager leaves.

    As I think someone has put on another thread, Kerslake is no longer listed on the official website as a member of staff so I'd say he's gone. Collinge still is though.

    Zen - there cannot be many of us left! I am loading my complete CD collection on my new Mac and having a great time playing some cracking music...Elizabeth Reed on the Fillmore East album is probably my favourite piece of music ever...

    Well the trouble is the same as for a manager - once someone offers you a "better" job then are you going to stay put? Contracts clearly mean nothing and it is pointless to employ someone who does not want to be with you and may bear you a grudge for standing in your way. Better to let people go - demand maximum compensation / fees and move on.

    I suppose it's understandable for someone in a new job, in a new area will want to be surrounded by people he knows and he trusts. Collinge will be a big loss, but is Andy Rolls still at the club as well? Sure he can make the step up!

    I'd be more annoyed if he starts making derisory bids for our players, which will start unsettling them and possibly making them push for a move!

    I guess they can try and form a 'Gentleman's agreement', saying to a manager we will allow you to talk to a team as long as you don't come back to sign any players or staff! I believe Hodgson had one at Liverpool after leaving Fulham, but still reneged on that signing Konchesky! It would be nice if Bas told him this, but is highly unlikely as Malky was after Dyche pretty much straight away!

    Managers aren't employees. They're freelance contractors.

    NNW - it's still restrictive practice and a court is unlikely to uphold the contract.
    At best you can restrict someone to 6 months these days.

    Nope, definitely wrong. Non-solicitation clauses are perfectly legal and enforceable, in this jurisdiction and others, so long as they are reasonable. It's standard commercial practice, hence my surprise that they don't seem to be used in football.
