....he's fat, he's round, he bounces on the ground, Sammy Lee - Sammy Lee http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7009806,00.html another rat deserts the stinking ship! and we keep on developing ....... Welcome to De Gea, may you have a long and illustrious career with United
i think whoever picks the photos to put on a story is a legend. always terrible shots look at this one of hamsik ................. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11854_7008687,00.html we should pay anything to sign him, he could pick the ball up in his mouth, run to the goal and just spit it in, no one could stop him
So while we replace Sammy Lee, who is tacticaly inferior to Steve Clarke... his replacement. we're a sinking ship yet when you replace a keeper after his retirement with a keeper who is unproven at the top level after an OK season with Athletico Madrid where he conseeded 58 goals (10 goals more then Athletico Madrids 10 year league average) you're on the up. BTW... as a comparison 9th placed Aston Villa conseeded a similar amount of goals last season while every club above them conseeded less. Delusional much...
A Madrid don't have anything like the back 4 United have and a keeper is only as good as the players in front of him.
The fact that we have replaced our assistant manager with a better one isn't pointless The fact that De Gea is unproven at the highest level isn't pointless The fact that you are comparing the change of an assistant manager to the change of a goalkeeper is pointless any excuse to top up on your Liverpool FC obsession EDIT - Thanks - It is one one of those words that I just can't spell... I'll do some look, cover, check later for future goalkeepering related debates
Loserpool fans are just jealous we're making world class/future world class signings where they have to stuck with the likes of Henderson and Caroll haha
do you know anything about football? United defence against althletico defense think before you speak and remove yourself from the united board. Thanks.
Boz you're team sold it's best asset and replaced him with an overated overpriced ponytailed nobody. you got rid of a manager that wasn't allowed to bed himself in - we let ours for almost 7 years, then you replace him with an "out of touch" ex-legend in vain hope to restore faith your faithful. and now another past "legend" in ball shaped local boy Sammy, who had all the pies, Lee leaves with no tangible reason. We, the current Pl winners & Cl finalist, on the other hand strenghthen the squad with youthful potential and at a reasonable price, two signings of which are home grown .... now that's good management. and the reason I posted the article was that as a school kid Lee was a constant joke to me and many other United fans, seems things don't change 30 odd years later And the irony about Steve Clarke, who probably brought about Sammy's demise, is that whilst at West Ham he was offered Carroll for £1M but he said no as he thiught he wasn't worth it! both are now at Liverpool, Carroll albeit for more than 1m.
In his defence, no you don't. If it's the latest post on the premier league section it comes up on the home page, that's where I saw it.
No I didn't. It was in the last post catagory at the following address when I first saw it http://www.not606.com/forumdisplay.php/9-English-Football Our best asset plays in goal but to avoid sillyness I'll now assume you're talking about Torres... Fernando Torres who did next to nothing for 18 months so we replaced him with someone who is younger, had better goals to game stats then Torres did at 21 And who went on to score more goals then Torres whilst playing half as many games I'm not even going to entertain that joke of an arguement. Anyone with two eyes and a brain can see that Liverpool have come along leaps and bounds since Kenny took over from Hodgson, I can back this up with statistical proof regarding the marked differences but i'll let this slide as i'll be waisting your time as I know that you know that deep down replacing Roy Hodgson was the right thing to do There hasn't been a statement from the club or Sammy Lee yet - for all you know he may have resigned. There are rumours that he is to join West Ham United to work under Sam Allerdyce, who's to say that we didn't make him redundant so he leaves with a "golden handshake" before assuming his new role at West Ham? nobody knows any facts I can't argue about the trophies you have won but you payed the same for Jones as we did for Henderson, both are unproven at the highest level and you have spent a bomb on a keeper who is also unproven at the highest level, has let in more goals then the average keeper for Ath. Madrid in the last 10 years and you expect him to slot in to the number 1 shirt straight away with nothing to fall back on... I'm sorry but that doesn't sound like good management - it sounds like desperation
admittidley(sp) Gea being a 20 year old is a gamble, but I wouldn't say desperation, this transfer was mooted along time ago and is well publicised, I haven't seen him play and have to rely on footage, numerous reports and plaudits from other players, but it appears on the surface there is great potential there, time will only tell and lets face it at 20 he has plenty of that. The same can be said about Jones, however Young I have admired for sometime. replacing deadwood, with a mixture of fresh, young, and in the most part home grown talent even the most biased has to see thatb is good management. Torres may of been a passenger for the last couple of years but in terms of dosh he was an asset at £50m - you would not get that for Reina, good as he is. £35m for Caroll, you must admit is over the top, as was the circa £30m we paid for Berbs Sammy Lee though, I can't even remember why, did bring much amusement in my youth.
It's hardly desperation. We've replaced a great goal keeper, because we had to, with the best available option. He is young, I agree it's a gamble, but it is quite clear that he is very good and has massive potential. Nauer wasn't available and there aren't many truly special goalies out there. He will more than suffice. I don't think desperate is something you can attach to any of our summer signings.
Have you actually watched any La Liga football? If you had you would know that Athletico's defensive unit is terrible, and if it wasn't for some of De Gea's brilliant performances over the past season and a half the number of goals conceded would of been a hell of a lot higher, including a solid performance against Inter in the Super Cup, which included saving a penalty, and Athletico went on to win. Also, £18 million isn't a "bomb" for an "unproven" keeper, but £35 million for an "unproven" striker certainly is!
