I did this thread just over a year ago, and since I'm a bit bored I thought it might be nice to see what other people's music taste are and/or how they've changed in 12 months. Here is the original one: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/225029-O-T-Favourite-Albums I think Kempton did one earlier than that as well. EDIT: Found it - http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/199537-O-T-The-bestest-albums-ever-made-your-1-2-3-! What are your fave albums? I'd probably try to narrow down to at least 10.
Here is my (likely to change) top 10, in no order. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses David Bowie - Low The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead Oasis - Definitely Maybe Radiohead - The Bends Cast - All Change Arctic Monkeys - Beneath the Boardwalk Massive Attack - Blue Lines Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds The La's - The La's
Aargh decided not to bother listing popular albums that will get listed so ill stick to the left field Allah las - Allah las Japandroids - post nothing Mac Demarco - rock n roll nightclub Black angels - phosphine dream Avalanches - since I left you Prodigy - hnic N a million more I've forgot the album name of
These were mine last year, can't see from Kemps' because all my posts disappeared when my account was corrupted. Infected Setting Sons It's Great When You're Straight Yeah Our Favourite Shop The Autumn Stone Specials Revolver Wildwood Moseley Shoals Jake Bugg Based on what I've been listening to frequently I'd probably add:- Snapshot - The Strypes Five Leaves Left - Nick Drake Call Me - Al Green Live From Marrs - Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals Billy Talent II - Billy Talent Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture - Bowie Stand - Sly & The Family Stone The Replacements - The Replacements Pieces of a Man - Gil Scott Heron Otis Blue:Otis Sings Soul - Otis Redding There's 10 but there are loads more I could add, been off work for nearly 6 months this year so been listening to a lot.
Black Sabbath - Paranoid Alice in Chains - Facelift Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV RHCP - Californication Oasis - Morning Glory Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Soundgarden - Superunknown Foo Fighters - Wasting Light Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
Yeah I'm pretty similar, I finished Uni in Easter, so have had ages off, mostly listening to music throughout. I have loads of others I could mention.
I love your enthusiasm Macca....but do you realize how much more difficult that is for old farts compared to you young buggers to pare it down to 10 favourites. If you were asked to partake in "Desert Island Discs" - if you know of that program, it probably went off air 40 years ago - you'd probably tell the host to piss off - it's impossible to purge all the good **** you've listened to over a lifetime just to come up with a "short list". Personally my list would be no less than 1000 albums - and that would be difficult to narrow down. This may illustrate my problem narrowing it down: I go back a long time - how about Pachelbel's greatest hits - I think there are only 4 or 5 known pieces left to posterity - here's one of them.... Here's a more recent piece somewhere off one of my top fav albums: Don't get me wrong - it's an interesting question post - but would take me personally five years to nail down !!
Avoided stuff like The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Who, The Kinks, Small Faces & Weller stuff but even without those I could make a big list & my favourites would change weekly.
Yeah, it's very easy to put something in by The Beatles simply because it is by The Beatles. Same going for the others you said.
At the moment. But not in order 1.Transformer- Lou Reed 2.Ziggy Stardust- David Bowie 3.Velvet Underground and Nico-Velvet Underground 4.Rust Never Sleeps-Neil Young 5.Hunky Dory- David Bowie
Other ones that missed out: The Cure - Disintegration The Verve - Northern Soul James - Gold Mother Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole Blur - Modern Life Is Rubbish Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures The Stone Roses - Second Coming (It's not as bad as everyone makes out) Chuck Berry - After School Session New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies Fleetwood Mac - Rumours The Doors - The Doors and LA Woman De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising Suede - Suede Gorillaz - Demon Days and Plastic Beach Anything by Jimi Hendrix Anything by Paul Weller (Jam, Style Council, Solo) Anything David Bowie did in the 1970s and early 80s I think that's enough for now...
10 albums is the rule? No particular order, I am not saying I think these are the greatest albums of all time, but off the top of my head I think I enjoy these more than any others. Although I might change my mind or remember a better one in 5 min. Nirvana - Bleach Tripping Daisy - Jesus hits like an atom bomb Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols Against Me - Against Me! Is Reinventing Axle Rose Alkaline Trio - God Dammit Smoking Popes - Get Fired Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Pixies - Surfer Rosa Jets to Brazil - Orange Rhyming Dictionary Snoop Dog - Doggystyle
10 albums isn't the rule, I just thought (recklessly as my last post shows) that it might be possible to narrow it down that much.
My top 10, in no order. Probably missed some out as this is off the top of my head 1. Oasis - Definitely Maybe 2. The Beatles - Revolver 3. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses 4. Nirvana - Nevermind 5. Pink Floyd - The Wall 6. U2 - Joshua Tree 7. The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed 8. Oasis - What's the story morning glory? 9. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 10. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour
A lot of 90s albums so far. Nowt beats All Change by Cast in terms of 90s albums, a cruelly overlooked album by the remnants of a legendary band.
10 is a fine limit. Having something like 30 favorite albums is like having 30 favorite girlfriends or 30 favorite ice cream flavors. You really only have one at a time, sometimes 2 at a time but you never have 30 at a time unless you are Billy Idol or Caligula.
Speaking of 90's bands, today is 5 years to the day that Oasis split up, the last of the great bands. Also Sunday is Definitely Maybes 20 year anniversary
