MSHnO speaks the truth. Brendan started with TikiTaka and his 50 page dosier on keeping the ball coulpled with fast pressing from the front to win it back if you lost it. He soon learnt that death by passing (TikiTaka) doesn`t work in the Premier league where many teams already use his high tempo pressing to win the ball back, then he realised he had 3 very talented quick players up front and changed from TikiTaka to moving the ball quickly from back to front and let the dangerous players be dangerous.

  2. Fair enough. I'm not convinced he was "worlds away" from how Kenny wanted us to play but they were "worlds away" in how to achieve the goal. Both wanted to play pass and move football but one wanted a little & large partnership up front so we had a alternative option, the other went 100% into it.

    First ten games under Brod:

PL against WBA (A): lost 3-0
EL against Hearts (A): won 1-0
PL against Man City (H): drew 2-2
EL against Hearts (H): drew 1-1
PL against Arsenal (H): lost 2-0
PL against Sunderland (A): drew 1-1
EL against Young Boys (A): won 5-3
PL against Man Utd (H)L lost 2-1
CC against WBA (A): won 2-1
PL against Norwich (A): won 5-2

Won 4, drew 3 and lost 3. Not too bad considering the players we had. Especially considering Brod had to cut cost at the club too.

Apart from the Belgian hair tree and Mata every player at utd was part of the prem winning team that fergie left.

Trying to compare the flawed genius's start to Rodgers start with us is just straw clutching UIR, you fell for the hype about him like most of the yoonited followers/lemmings

I do think he would like both. General control through posession with lightening strikes to go ahead then back to controlling the ball to make sure it's difficult for opposition to draw level. the squad is getting more and more cabable of that.

He's got the job now and doing it so less time spent describing his plans with in fad words lol. It really was just an extension of his job interview from Board to convincing us and press.

We're more or less convinced and he can just get bloody on with it.

The plus side, is VG has little personally to prove record wise so should be confident in most of his approaches, the negative is if he insists his way is inflexible to team or league he's in. Too early to say that isn't it? Although I'm sure I'm no longer gearing "FFS! This is a squad that were champions" the longer this goes on eh?

You can have the best plans in the world but if yer trying to teach it to rubbish it's not going to work......only prob is will he be given the real time to get rid of all that muck and of he is will he be retiring just as he does?

People focus too much on the term tiki-taka. The key point is to value possesion of the ball and to trust your own passing and movement. Since the very start Rodgers has encouraged playing the ball even when mistakes were made and goals conceded as a consequnce. In the moment makes you think why didn't you just hoof it clear but of course you aren't thinking about all the goals conceded by teams who invite continuous pressure and goals by giving the opponents the ball. That part still hasn't changed but of course Rodgers is flexible and intelligent to know that if you have great pace and passing ability then going quicker from back to front is better than not.

    Bit contradictory there <laugh>
On a serious note, we have lost very good defenders and a great (though aged) midfielder. Van Gaal has said that with the players at his disposal he will play 3-5-2 (not his prefered system), he had to change to this at the last minute with Holland because he lost Strootman. The di Maria signing could be the start of changing this but unless we get a good DM in before the window closes then i see us sticking with 3-5-2 until January when he will know how Strootman and Vidal have recovered (unless he intends to use Herrera as DM which is his own prefered position).

  11. Think you need to read the thread <laugh>

UIR is comparing Brod's and LVG's starts. Brod didn't have the greatest of starts (posted above) but LVG had a better squad to start with. So the argument is that Man Utd's squad was better which you just agreed with :)

Surely the United squad should be from this season... LVG cant really do much with a squad that existed 2 years before he got hold of it <whistle>

We probably know this already, but I am a little bored...

    Liverpool:
Kelly? (really? who is that?), Brad Jones, Reina, Doni?, Coates

Robinson, Maxi Rodriguez, Wilson?, Downing, Henderson, Bellamy?, Shelvey (I had high hopes), Spearing (Thank god he has gone!), Flanagan (he has beefed up)

Skrtel, Long Johnson, Aurelio?, Adam, Kuyt, Gerrard, The Grumpy Legend, Carragher, Agger, Carroll, Enrique, Lucas, Suarez

  20. You do realise when Brod took over we had the likes of Adam, Carroll, Downing and Cole with Kuyt, Aurelio, Maxi and Bellers all leaving on frees right?
