Am I the only one that was hoping under John Henry and FSG that we'd finally get to close deals off early because we finally had someone on the board that understands football (Comolli) and is supposed to be a specialist negotiator?

This summer seems to be going the same way as other previous summers have gone. We show interest in a player, he wants to come here, we negotiate for ages only to either get blown out of the water financially by another club or to not sort a deal in time and have to move onto new targets which haven't been scouted as thoroughly meaning they aren't as good as our first choice target and our team suffers as a result.

This Adam deal has been on/off for the past two weeks now and it's getting rather tedious, the Downing deal doesn't seem to be close at all and we're in desperate need of a left winger. We're apparently in negotiation with Arsenal over Clichy, I can see that taking an age and maybe falling through aswell.

We've already lost out in the races to sign Young, Jones and now Wickham. We simply cannot afford to lose anymore of our targets, or it's going to be another predictable summer of coming out of the transfer window with a weaker squad than what it was at the start of the window.

    A little disappointed but...

All I can think of is that we're done with signing Premier league players and we're waiting for the European transfer window to open. Don't forget they've all been rumours so far, we haven't been officially linked with anyone and all the papers/sources are coming out with different stories.

We'll have targets and we'll have backup targets, perhaps we all just need to be a bit patient. Even if we don't sign anyone else - it's not the end of the world, we have the youth ready to slot in if we want new players.

Well we really don't know much of anything in reality. Is Wickham that much of a target? Don't we have enough young talent in that department? or are we just buying him to sell for profit in 4 years? Either way he's not a player for first team action this season, so I'm not really bothered, sure he might go on to be a future England player, but we can't win everything.

The absolute lack of any apparent activity is frustrating though. I keep looking at NewsNow to see another half dozen supposed targets, yet with pre-season starting next week, the one addition of Henderson is not what you want to see if we are serious.

I can only hope that we're waiting for the european market to open, although if this is the case then it contridicts everything KK, DC & JWH have said about building a strong british backbone to the team... although who knows whether that was a bluff to persue forgien players - stranger things have happened

Who actually said these players were targets ???...downing, wickham etc....we havent made bids for these players ...its basically the papers say were after x player which you obviously take as gospel then get dissapointed when they sign for people who HAVE actually made an approach to them !!!!!

ridiculous...ill reserve judgement when untill we have made all of our transfers !

Hmm, like I said in another thread. Liverpool must have some plan, more depth in scouting, after all, Manchester United have Fergie, Liverpool have Commoli, King Kenny and even Steve Clarke when deciding on transfers

Lets just wait and see, no need to panic at the moment perhaps the management just don't want any of the mentioned players.

Agree with everything you have said here apart from the final sentence. As much as I think the youth are going to be excellent, we have got to buy some wingers and a left-back. I think some experience in these positions is crucial.

    Taken from Wiki.

Presumably Man Utd haven't yet officially signed De Gea, but have agreed terms, medical etc..

Yea I obviously would like to see players come in, but I can see all the doom and gloom "Kenny isn't cut out for this," "It's all Comolli's fault" stuff if we don't sign them.

Let's face it, you've made some dreadful signings - Carroll for £35 million, Henderson for £16 million, etc. I can't imagine that your owners have any money left.

Apart from manure who else has signed anyone? Even moneybags City and Chelski are quiet at the moment.Have faith,KK has always said when they have something to tell us they will.So much of this speculation is media bull****.Who other than the media have said we were after Wickham,Young,Jones etc etc.
I would bet that when we do sign players they are not ones we have been linked with..(with the exception of Adam who I think we should give up on)
Keep the faith and start panicking if we kick off against Sunderland with no new signings!!

Some interesting quotes in that article.

"Some things happen early and some late. The important thing is that things happen. Sometimes what you avoid is important."

Have trust in the club regarding transfers. It takes as long as it needs to.

    Nice one Chris.

Glad to hear that the Bridge deal was just hearsay. The owners certainly seem to know what they want and have previous success following the exact same plan. This along with the new staff on the front line is definitely a good reason to be optimistic.
