New Manchester United signing Angel Di Maria has sensationally claimed he did not want to leave Real Madrid but was left no choice by the La Liga club's board. United signed Di Maria for a British record fee of £59.7 million on Tuesday but the winger revealed in an open letter to Madrid fans that it was not intention to leave. Instead, Di Maria claimed "lies were circulated" when both player and club were in dispute over a new contract and that Madrid wanted to "pin the idea of leaving" on him. He wrote: "My time at Real Madrid has come to an end. It's impossible, in just a few lines, to put all I have gained here, but this letter is my way of explaining how I'm feeling now that I'm bidding the club farewell. "Over the four years I have had the honour of wearing this shirt, I have felt nothing but pride about everything that has happened and all I have achieved together with my team-mates. "Sadly, now I have to go, but I want to make it clear that this was never my wish. I've always wanted to progress, as anyone else does in their job. I went to the World Cup after winning the 'Decima' with the hope of getting some signal from the club management, but it never came. "Many things were said and many lies circulated. They always wanted to pin the idea of leaving the club on me, but that's not how it was. Unfortunately, my football isn't to someone's taste. The only thing I asked for was a fair deal. "There are many things that I value and a lot of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find them at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, with which I'm hoping to make history. "I've been lucky enough to share a dressing room with some fantastic players, who have been even better team-mates. I think that was the key to winning the 10th Champions League. I want to apologise for the times I made mistakes, on or off the field. "It was never my intention to do wrong by anyone. I sweated for this shirt every game as if it were the last. There were times when things went well, and times when they didn't, but what I can say is that I always gave it everything." http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/337367.html?CMP=OTC-RSS Well, Well - looks like he was forced out due to the new signings that have no doubt improved Real Madrid. Thoughts?
Great wumming All united fans will now turn against di Maria and really hate him. He is the worst player United has bought for a very long time Pat yourself in the back mate.
Thanks Christian - it means a lot It's not wumming as there are quotes from him, don't shoot the messenger
I know. That is why this is such a great post. The best I have seen for a long time. That is why I thanked you because of your admiration for him and your wish to enlighten united fans. Di Maria is a poor poor buy. Great.
He's a very good buy, not a great buy - he would be a great buy he if had the strength to be a midfield general, but being as light as a feather I'd say he is a very good buy. Now if you had signed Vidal - that would be a great buy (I actually think you might just pull it off on DD) I saw the article and yes wanted to educate the Utd fans that are deluded enough to think that he wanted to leave probably the best club in the world to join a club that's going through a complete full on **** storm
Great post Brilliant. Now we know that di Maria really is not for us. And that we should get Vidal too
I may be able to help - I'd need a referral from either your GP or Probation Officer as I'm a Chartered Forensic Psychologist. Although a little rusty as I'm a substance misuse manager now, but I'm sure I could help in some way. It's not normal seeing you so happy, I'm getting worried. First step may be for you to stand in the bathroom in front of the mirror and get absolutely furious with yourself... Let me know the results and we can go from there
It isnt that he is not for you, most teams would love to have him, its just, like the Mata signing, it smacks of papering over the cracks, its not one of the Vital areas United badly need to strengthen in, which is of course a slightly deeper lying midfield general and at least 1 CB, maybe 2. Signing another attacking forward midfielder/winger is no good when you're defence is third rate and there is no engine in midfield. If you get Vidal and a decent CB you will make top 4, if you dont, you wont, its that cut and dry for me.
Thank you for this great insight. If I dare so say so amongst this august impartial non United audience on this board, I have said so many times myself. Di Maria without 3-4 top class players in defence/central midfield is only half of the rebuilding. But yours was a nicer post. Lovely.
I thought that even an RS like you can read. I am NOT happy. I am gutted Happy? why? that the recent defeats in the transfer window might have some silver lining: like driving home some unpalatable truths? or happy that MK Dons as a smaller club took their opportunity to thrash a big name club and have their day in the sun? Happy that the GGs and that pratt woodward who was in the stands realise that this squad needs further revamping and that just buying Di Maria would not be enough?
I like the way they felt the need to release pictures of him with Woodward, just to show he's not a complete clown
Oh look, i smell the fear, Di Maria wanted to join us, i would ignore that letter, he's trying to appease the Real Madrid fans.
Matth, would you agree that Di Maria is the best footballer in the world right now? Better than Messi and Suarez?
You smell the skid marks in your y-fronts matth. As for the letter, why would you doubt his words, he was pushed out by Real and clearly would have preferred to have stayed. What he said wasn't a put down of Utd so stop pretending he never made the statement to the Real fans in the context it was meant.
why would he want to appease fans he won't be playing in front at the possible expense of alienating the ones he will?
