It's the same old story - why do managers do this? Rip apart a team for cup games then assemble 11 players who need a game and expect them to gel immediately. As we well know, it takes a fair number of games for players to understand each other. Pointless exercise.
Wow that was bad it was memories of Huddersfield again. What's happening with this second string of watford players, what's happening with the bizarre tactics such as putting Anya as left back behind Dyer who is left wing. What's wrong with Vydra, he looks a pale shadow of his former self. Murray looks overweight, Anya played out of position. A few questions need answering and our depth of squad is definitely not so strong
Can see now why some players are not starting in the first 11. Dyer, Vydra, Ighalo, Murray, McGugan all poor...and what has happened to Anya? Shadow of the player he was. No too worried as I suspect that none of the above will start on Saturday, but disappointed to be out of the cup so early again.
I cannot see the Pozzos being too pleased as a cup run would have brought in some additional income especially if we were drawn against a larger club. From what I heard this was a terrible display from a team of strangers. Why have a couple of flying wingers and just not use them? Sorry but for me the team was badly prepared without a proper game plan.
Well that was horrible. Not sure where to start unfortunately. Bad tactics main issue with an almost inexplicable change to what I think was 4-3-3 or maybe 4-1-2-3 after about 15 minutes without the right players to make it happen (Anya for example). Not sure the players were clear on what formation we were playing either. Midfield did nothing so Ighalo looked a bit lost and Vydra was having to drop back far too much. Vydra also can't play on the right of a front 3 and we looked a bit better when he went into the middle of the three - hence second half we immediately moved him back to the right and it all went wrong again. Then the substitutions - even Anya thought he was coming off for Pudil but no it was Doyley so Anya having been stuck at left back for most of the game was then at right back! Fabbrini only one to come out of it looking okay and he wasn't on for long. Feels better to vent those frustrations and at least it wasn't a league game.
Very very poor tonight. As stated above, I just could not understand moving Anya over play as a left back behind Dyer - they had no clue how to play together. Vydra was virtually playing as a mid-field player tonight...totally inept team preparation. Last summer I understand Murray went to St.Georges to get fit and prepare for the season, this summer it looks like he has spent it in The George and Dragon! If this type of rotation carries on for mid-week league games, we should prepare ourselves for struggling to a play off place.
The team sheet looked good at 7.45. But by 9.30 we had more questions than answers. Perhaps there were too many changes all at once? But the worst performing players included Anya, Hoban ("man of the match--your having a laugh") and Vydra--who are usually thought of as among the first choices for the squad. No-one impressed. The performance lacked energy and quality--passes were overhit or underhit , the pace in the squad was not utilised--we were pedestrian, not pacey. Doncaster looked like a fairly ordinary team, but did not have to be better than that to beat us. So much for the idea that we have "two teams of Championship standard". Not on this evidence. What now? Back to the team that played Leeds for next Saturday (Ekstrand for Hoban) and more cautious "rotation" for future Tuesday games. We will not see much of Murray, McGuigan or Doyley this season. Ighalo had a few good touches. One bright(ish) spot.
Looks like McGugan proved he needs to be shipped off, take whatever profit we can. To be fair its a tough ask to perform with such wholesale change and it does appear that the League cup has been sacrificed.
I have mixed feelings about this result. I always hate losing. Losing has cost us the chance of a money spinning draw in the next round. Losing reduced the number of games we have which used sensibly could have given our whole squad a work out. Against that it is the Championship which counts. Rotation can be good if it keeps squad players fresh but it can lead to an unsettled side and cause confusion. Overall I am disappointed we lost but a win on Saturday will not leave me too depressed
It really does look as if the role that Troy Deeney plays is vital to our team. I do not see a replacement for him elsewhere in the club.
You're spot on there, judging by his comments Gomes also appears to be a leader/motivator you need to have at least one of these two on the pitch for any given game to make it work. Bring back Eustace!!!!!!
Do we ever play well in this Cup? Certainly those players last night failed to prove to Bepe why they should be in the first team. As Alec said they had a chance to impress and didn't take it so cannot complain if they aren't selected in the future.
After the Donny winner, the SSN reporter said that our players didn't seem to be up for the fight, which given the division we're in is worrying to say the least. Does anyone else who was at the game last night agree with the reporter?
ahhaahah the Donny player deffo didn't dive for their pen that is as clear cut as they come!! Inside job from Tamas?
Jersey - no some players just did not seem up for it..absolute disgrace Mexico - not complaints from me on the penalty. Looked a clear cut foul with the ref in a good position and taking his time to make the decision.
