No I agree you should be able to defend yourself, but that doesn't seem like a valid reason to vote for a political party.

If I didn't live in a lovely little area where crime is virtually non-existent, I'd be very thankful for this. Residents of dangerous places like London and Edinburgh will be well pleased I imagine.

there is a difference between defence and retribution. I could kick lumps into a burglar and restrain him until police arrive. Knifing a burglar is retribution and murder, that should not be legal

why not? if he takes the decision to break into your home, to put you and your family in danger and steal your belongings then it's no holds barred against him imo, including killing him.

chances are, if you restrain him until the police come, he'll go to court have a slap on the wrist and be let out to do it again and again.

So are you saying if someone commits a crime and you catch them doing it you should be in charge of choosing their punishment? That's not how the world works...

so is torturing a burglar you find in your home acceptable?

there's a difference between commiting a crime ala stealing from a shop, taking drugs and committing a crime where they enter your private residence and put you and your family in danger.

At least he'd be the 'daddy' in the prison.

Have you seen the size of him? PM him, he'll tell you all about it.

Nope there isn't. A crime is a crime, and you don't decide the punishment. Self-defence is one thing, you should always be able to defend yourself. But if you actively choose to kill someone because you think you have the right to in the circumstances, then you're the one committing a crime.
