When a manager comes into a club and says he's sticking with a certain formation. And plays that way in every game, it's probably quite easy for teams to counter-act the system. If you're going to be so tactically rigid, it has to be an ethos that will last at the club for generations ala Barcelona. That doesn't appear to be the trend in Van Gaal's management history though. I still think he's a good manager, and his name has definitely been decisive in signing some good players this summer. Much, much more needed though!

Some foreign managers come into this country and take over a big club thinking it will be a breeze but they soon find out that the premiership is like no other league as its quicker and more nationalities per club than any other league in the world. It's going to take a whole season for him to get use to how the premiership and British football operates...
