Cardiff's bid on Friday failed to meet Dundee Utd's valuation for the player, Gethin Jenkin's (with the sanction of the board) has given MM the green light to go back with an improved offer which is closer to the Scottish club's £2million valuation, but is said not to be the full asking price, Utd are said to want the majority up front, whereas Cardiff favour stage payments, the two clubs are said not to be far apart, but the problem from our point of view is with cash rich Blackpool (parachute payments, and the Charlie Adam money) said to be interested Utd might be tempted to play hardball and hang on for a big lump payment.......the player is said to favour joining up with Conway at Cardiff, so that could yet be a factor. I don't think that either MM or the Malaysians will be steamrollered into either paying over the odds, or getting involved in a deal that is not fair to the City, which is fair enough, however it would be a shame to miss out on a player, over what, in the scheme of things is only a few quid, a fine line to walk, the player wants to move, the club appear to be resigned to him going..........it will be interesting to see who blinks first <ok>

i'd imagine we'd pay him more than blackpool, plus we're more likely to go up, so i cant see him joining anyone but us atm.

we always seem to favour installments, but i dont think we'll be paying anything near £2m, after all he's hardly got a prolific scoring record, and earnshaw is available on a free so there are alternatives if dundee hold us to ransom <ok>

Apparently new terms were faxed to Dundee Utd this afternoon, no reply as at 5:30pm...............which means they haven't been dismissed out of hand, I guess the ball is in Holloway/Blackpool's court <ok>

But it's not his choice - he's not a free agent. It's up to the club, which means transfer fee is more likely to be the deciding factor than anything that affects the player but makes no difference to the selling club. What do Dundee United care how much he's going to get paid or how likely we are to go up?

The player can refuse to go to a club regardless of what fee is agreed...ask Bellamy...or the numerous players that enter talks which ultimately breakdown...

He doesn't have to go to a club he doesn't want to go to. I am still unsure why we are chasing him until the rape case is sorted out...Geez and an assault charge....I really don't want a guy with that much baggage!!! Why do we want him?? There must be players as good as he is when can find!

Reports suggest that Goodwillie himself wants to come to Cardiff. I can see him kicking off if Dundee refuse to sell him to us and we could well soon see Goodwillie handing in a transfer request. C'mon, Dundee owe us after we loaned Warren Feeney and Willo Flood to them!

    Goodwillie/Badwillie???

Agree with Siam. We should not be trying to sign a player with a rape allegation over him. Perhaps we are trying to sign him now as this devalues his worth? I don't know. I just hope the club knows something about all this that we don't.

Also if we do sign Goodwillie, I can't see us signing Earnie AND Bellers. Three short high earning forward players in the Championship? No chance.

I personally dont think we should sign him for any fee regardless of the rape charge while earnie is available for £0. That £2m or whatever were prepared to spend could go elsewhere.

Expect Goodwillie to sign in the next few days!
I think we are close to having a bid accepted, and the player seems to want to come to us, this will be concluded very soon I believe.

I know they didn't value him at the £2m quoted. We'll see soon enough. I'm sure MM is on the case but if he wants him, get him and then move on. Other areas need looking at too and the lack of official news is driving me nuts...and I thought waiting for a manager was bad enough :D

I think some trouble is a slight understatement.

The funny part about it is if the headlines read

"Cardiff in £2miilion swoop for Dundee Utd pair, Cardiff City today fought off competition from Glagow giants Rangers to sign the much vaunted Dundee Utd strike force of Conway and Goodwillie, this shows a statement of intent from the clubs owners and their new manager Malky McKay"

Well we'd be dancing in the streets..............funny old world <ok>
