So you have one poster saying we should sign Destro (who he has never seen play) one poster poking fun at the touch of Welbeck but he wants us to sign Charlie Austin and you haven't watched much of Welbeck? I'm not Welbecks biggest fan and not hoping we go out and sign him but in terms of his play he is better suited to Pochettino then Townsend. The player you (and others) want Townsend to be, isn't going to happen as you're thinking of the player he might become if he develops. If we faced a parked bus and Townsend came on the pitch he would just fire the ball at the parked bus, over and over again. He isn't going to stretch the defence and help open up a tight defence, as even if he has the pace, he doesn't have much upstairs.
By the way, who is Destra please log in to view this image Maybe Thor was right and she would make a good signing.
"In 5 preseason, two league and one Europa game, we've consistently looked reasonably good at least against anyone who tries to play football (Toronto, Seattle, Glasgow, Schalke and QPR), and crap against anyone who parks the bus (Chicago, West Ham & Limassol). While I give Pochettino high marks for the few games he's been around, the most obvious negative (which Saints fans have told us) is the lack of a Plan B. It seems obvious to me that pacy players providing width are the obvious means to get around the back of the parked bus, and Townsend (along with Lennon, Rose and Walker) are the obvious players to use. So I'd like to keep Townsend because he may be key to developing a Plan B, which Pochettino may have showed a few signs of doing." The way Lennon was used in some pre-season games suggests Pochettino has some other ideas. But yes I agree that I would like to see good old fast flank attacks being played too.
Dawson set for Hull medical - price of 3m mooted Fazio is also getting closer supposedly. Seeing as how his Ryanair flight was rumoured to be on Saturday, I should think so!
Apparently Sevilla have tried to make the Fazio deal as drawn out as possible, as they still don't like us for the Ramos deal and various other minor incidents. They also don't want him to leave, especially for what's seen as a cut-price deal.
We have Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dier annd (presumably) Chiriches. Already a lot better than many clubs. Arsenal only have 3 at the moment and one of them's a converted full-back.
Plus Veljkovic and Fryers. Capoue can slot there too. Selling Daws and possibly Vlad is somewhat disappointing to be losing good players but we have enough cover in the squad (once Fazio arrives that is) to be able to cope. I think Dier's emergence has also surprised many, I personally saw him as a young option to challenge in the future but quite frankly, he's done enough in his 3 games to suggest to me he's going to give Younes, Jan and whoever else a run for their money this season. May even end up first choice.
