Agree with this totally. Not to compare however possibly the best Premier League team ive ever seen was the Arsenal team that went undefeated the whole season, Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, Pires, Ljungberg, Reyes, Viera, Gilberto, Edu all shared the goals/burden around. Im sure Pires and Ljungberg might have got 10 plus that season. Id prefer to see us recruit people like Gardner who can chip in with important goals on a regular basis rather then break the bank and blow all our money to buy a 25goal a season striker who may get injured after 10mins of the 1st game (or jump ship in January for example!)
I'll be more than happy to start the season with Gyan and Wickham starting up front. I'd rather Wickham than Pav, Crouch, and certainly more than ****ing Kalou. If anyone would rather have any of those 3 rather than Wickham, i'd be amazed. For me, it's hard to believe we've got such strong grumbles about the signing of what appears to be a very talented young player. I commend Bruce for this move. What's more, we're not going to find another Darren Bent and i'd prefer us to build a team that has a threat coming from all angles. That way, we're not so heavily dependent on a single individual. Bruce now needs to focus all his attention on giving this team width!!
Sorry mate but id defo rather hav Pav, Crouch or Kalou START next season ahead of Wickham. All proven premier league strikers who have consistently scored goals at domestic, euro and international level. However id be absolutely chuffed if we pulled the Wickham deal off, bags of potential, right attitude and for me in 2/3years could be a genuine star hopefully far eclipsing those afforementioned players!
Well that's it then, guess if everyone's happy about the Gyan/Wickham combo, may as well forget about the likes of Sturridge or any other strikers. Keep what's left of any money and strengthen elsewhere. But i would remain a bit cautious, if this is the case, seems to be a lot of expectatiions, from someone so young. I'm more excited about the Wong-Don deal, and how that works out, and the likes of Gardner and Larsson. But hey, still hoping the Wickham lives up to his potential, and does knocks them in for fun.
At least Wickam is an "outside the box" signing, one we weren't expecting. I really like Bruce has kept to his philosophy of creating a young and fast team, and now with some added quality in midfield especially. Someone like Rodallega, although obvously Sturridge and Wellbeck would be great acquisitions. I can still see us signing another striker (an older player maybe) as well as at least one more defender though, but we finally seem to be getting them in and not leaving it all until the last minute - good so we can attract more players and maximise pre-season training and team bonding.
Doesn't look likely...."STOKE boss Tony Pulis has been told to cough up a staggering £20m if he wants to take Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge to the Britannia Stadium on a permanent deal" http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/255642/Stoke-need-20m-for-Chelsea-s-Daniel-Sturridge
Yeh £20m seems fair, seeing as we goth that for Henderson and strikers are generally more expensive. Suppose they see Wickham as an investment - if he comes good we could double or even triple our money.
