Perhaps alittle but most of us knew a draw would be a good result but a loss was more likely. The pessimistic members here after the game are always pessimistic even if we win. We played the Champions at their ground, was always going to be difficult, can't see them losing any home games this season (maybe Chelsea)
Why would they chose us? Because they'll be playing for Liverpool. The name of the club its history, its prestige must count for something for many players.
Not being picky mate, and yes, it is way, way too early to judge any team. It has always been an opinion of mine though that certain central defenders get noticed for their calmness on the ball and the way they bring it forward, but the guy who does the defending and organising often gets ignored.
Modern football is about recent History, yes Liverpool FC is a name people know but we have done enough in the last 5-10yrs for it to be a big attraction
You'd like to think... but 90% of players aren't like that. They want trophies, money and regular CL football. Until we can realistically offer that on a regular basis then we'll be going after the same players are Arsenal & Spurs. Our success in the 70s and 80's means nothing to players these days. Sad, but true. Give Falcao the choice of us or Bayern/Real and there's only one choice
Southampton conceded 60 goals in their first season without Lovren, 46 in the season he played as a regular. And Shaw, Clyne & Fonte were part of the back 4 that conceded 60. So... PS - I know what you're doing!!
Only works if you are a supporter, i would love to think any player would die to play for United but deep down i know it`s not true.
Lambert being the exception for us which is why I hope he's a success more than lots of other players. A guy that lives and breathes LFC.
Lovren tried to sashay forward with the ball too often today. Admirable, but can't afford that against City. That's why he got caught out on the 2nd and 3d goals. Henderson and Allen: weak. I can't blame Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge when they rely on such unimaginative and reluctant midfield. I would Gerrard to that, but he wasn't bad today. Moreno to blame for the first, and overall not a good game by him, but forgivable being his first. I would have put on Manquillo.
Lambert is far, far better than most people give him credit for. He is showing signs of nerves at the moment (tonights attempted pass to Sturridge shows this, he would have put that away last year). His first touch is excelent, his passing is very good and his finishing is usually as clinical as any top class striker (not world class). Once he gets over the star struck stage I think you will have a very dangerous striker in your team.
Yeah, think he just needs to relax a bit. Shame he didn't put that header away first time because once he gets that first goal he'll get over the whole emotion thing and get back to playing football. He made a difference today, no other forward we have (apart from maybe Balotelli) would have been in that position to put that header away so he does offer us something different which is all you can ask for really. 5-10 goals and a few assists and £4m will look like a brilliant piece of business. One thing you know you'll get is 100% commitment every single minute which is all you can ask for really.
Moreno looked very promissing for his first game, Can no (though that is harsh based on 20 mins), Marko looked tricky and fast as ****, could be very good once he settles. Given who you were playing against (and where) not too bad a performance and will most likely get better.
Not too anxious to pass judgement on our new recruits. I'm against though throwing Moreno straight into such a battle, when Manquillo had done well and trained with the squad for a few weeks.
Not seen him to be honest, tonight was the first game i have seen you. Has to be an up-grade on Johnson though.
More optimistic than most LFC fans on here I liked Moreno, made 1 mistake and dived in a bit (especially on Zabaleta from behind which had it been a forward, think would have gone down). Other than that, looked ok for first game. Markovic looked exciting from the moment he came on. Shame we then went down to 10 and couldn't get the ball. Can looked good in pre-season and again think harsh to judge him at a time when we didn't have the ball. Was stupid with his Ashley Young type dive, especially after already being booked
I'm not a Johnson basher. Johnson's game was above-average today as well. Made a lot of good passes to Henderson and Sterling, while keeping his flank clean.
I'm still very confused as to what our side is going to settle down to look like. When you think that we now have 4 strikers, 4 attacking midfielders, 5 defensive midfielders (if you include Hendo and Allen), 5 Cbs and 5 fullbacks then it's not too hard to understand why! Now we may need all of these players during the season but it was clear tonight that we lacked rhythm and understanding at times.
