Redmond or Townsend what a decision. Hoping the first choice is that bloke from Lazio whos name I've forgotten
Wanyama isn't exactly what Arsenal need (he doesn't move the ball quick enough for them); another CM playing close to him may just be exactly what they need, but I'll not type that one out
Here's a thought. My mate told me that JWP reminds him a little of a young David Beckham with his ability at dead balls and to cross a ball. If we sign Clasie, what about this for the time being: ...Morgan Vic Clasie... JWP ... .. Pelle ..... Tadic I think JWP could do a good job wide if we wanted someone to swing crosses in for Pelle. He would have the ability to bend it round the full back and into the space behind the CBs and get them facing their own goal. Beckham never beat a full back, so it may work. We'd have a very strong three in behind centrally, that would allow JWP to keep the width and Tadic to roam a bit, a la Lallana.
Whilst the logic of putting JWP out wide to put crosses in, is a relatively sound one (and yes, comparable to Beckham), I would still say that that front six would be too static and too easy to defend against. For it to work, I personally believe that one of those middle three CMs would have to be capable of bursting into the box late, and providing a goal threat. Beckham had it with Scholes, most obviously. Even Keane, Gerrard and Lampard at times. But I don't think any of them are. Pelle and a bit of Tadic would just be way, way short of enough scoring threat in and around the box, in my opinion.
Good point St_Brendy. I have always believed that Morgan could do more of that. His header against United in the first season was a good example. Maybe Koeman could coach that in. The bit I liked about having JWP out there was that if coached correctly, he could tuck in and support and get out wide quick when we get in possession. I felt on Saturday that we had zero width on the right hand side, unless Clyne got himself right up there. *I also left out Long by accident* another option
JWP did a decent job at right midfield last season. Pochettino used him to fill in behind Clyne. I don't recall him offering to much offensively himself but I think it's an option. I would like some pace out there if possible.
Well if we do go back in for Townsend hopefully he will fail his medical after coming off worse in this https://twitter.com/R9Soldado/status/503967292703916033
Vlaar's 4/6 to come here...but Koeman said no more CBs and Lambert hates him. Any reason why the odds shortened?
Match winner and goalscorer don't necessarily mean the same thing. We need more people who can chip in with goals.
The Fail and Metro both reporting that we're in for Belgium International defender, Toby Alderweireld from Athletico Madrid...plays CB and RB. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Rhodes-prepares-push-12m-Hull-City-move.html http://metro.co.uk/2014/08/25/south...for-arsenal-target-toby-alderweireld-4844566/
Was reported in here yesterday. Excellent signing but I don't see him coming to us. Hopefully I am wrong.
The top story on Italian daily Tuttosport’s front page on Tuesday in a two-way Premier League battle between Arsenal and Southampton for Torino striker Alessio Cerci. 27-year-old Cerci has been tipped to leave Torino throughout the summer, and until recently AC Milan had seemed to be the favourites to bag his signature. Now, however, Milan appear to have dropped out of the race for the Toro attacker, who last season made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and adding 13 assists. According to Tuttosport, Southampton are ready to make their move for Cerci offering €12 million for the forward. Arsenal, though, are also said to be circling the forward (who likes to be deployed in the false nine role), particularly in the wake of news that Olivier Giroud is set for three months on the Gunners sidelines with a broken foot. For what it’s worth, Tuttosport make it clear that Cerci would prefer to move to Arsenal. Torino meanwhile are looking to sell their star player for €18 million.
I hope that Cerci has seriously improved since his days at fiorentina Guessing he must though i recall one lazy lazy player
Would be our best signing of this window by a mile. It's a huge step down for him though, hopefully we can convince him.
I keep hoping that one day a player will be desperate to join us, saying it will be a dream come true (sigh). I suppose it is the quality of our targets that make that unlikely.
