If it looks like poo I should probably change it. Its a close up photo of one of my new rescue chickens that I got on Saturday. Its a Red Star which is a hybrid that produces extra large brown eggs. I got them from a place that rescues them from a factory farm in Vacaville.

God honest truth, I thought it was a lump of poo that someone had turned into a face with red eyes, some teeth and then stuck a sparkler in the top...

It is a pretty ugly chicken. They are missing probably 1/3 of their feathers, their combs have been partially eaten and they have only half their beaks. I tried to name them Ugly #1 and Ugly #2 but the girl said I was being mean.

From what I saw of him on Saturday, I don't think he'll have any problems stepping up another level. He just looks like a natural goal scorer. In style reminds me a little bit of Fowler, not slow, although not blessed with electric pace but he knows how to find space in the box and is a very cool finisher. I think with all the potential providers we now have in our squad, he'll get plenty of goals and certainly more than anyone else has scored for us in the Prem.

They should look better in a month or two, at least by then most of their feathers should grow back by then.

I sell them. I have people who order a certain number of dozen a month. The current goal is to have enough that I can put the sign I painted up by the road. After that I might sell them at a local farmers market or co-op. The problem is every time I get more chickens more people I know want them and I never have enough to put my sign out. I could just go buy a couple dozen more chickens but I like the idea of using my egg profits to buy more chickens which is why I am building up my flock at a few chickens at a time. I should start my goat herd pretty soon as I am in the final stages of putting up my goat fencing.

He's only got 2 of them and he's only had them 48 hours Chazz.

I know they're ex-prison birds but it's expecting a bit much for them to have laid a dozen eggs in that time.

Although thinking about it I have no idea if Americans sell eggs in dozens.

They might sell them in cups.

I have no idea what a cup is.

If I'm following an American recipe I just make it up.

Guess I'm wrong on the chickens.

Still, maybe Ellewoods can explain the cup thing.

I will milk some of them and make cheese for myself but not for profit. Ill make money on the goats by selling them on a couple websites that people use. I am going to be raising dwarf goats instead of large meat goats like Boers or large dairy goats like Nubians.

Pretty sure most recipes just tell you how many eggs to use. Things like flower will use cups while things like salt will use a teaspoon or tablespoon.

From wikipedia

1 cup = 250 millilitres
= 162⁄3 international tablespoons (15 mL each)
= 12.5 Australian tablespoons (20 mL each)
≈ 8.80 imperial fluid ounces
≈ 8.45 U.S. customary fluid ounces
