A new line of merchandise on the club shop. I actually stopped to check whether it was the first of April. http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2011/June/NewMJrange.aspx At least it's not as high profile as the infamous statue.
I reckon they've missed an opportunity by not marketing the old Fedora hat MJ used to wear. Could have it with MJ is the man for Fulham FC as a Slogan have Martin Jol model it.....Black Pinstripe - Black shirt -White Tie - Black n White Brogues By the way thats mine for copywrite purposes
Not forgetting the all-new Michael Jackson Statue Mini-Tour: http://www.fulhamfc.com/Hospitality/SpecialOffersAndEvents/CottageTours.aspx Form an orderly queue now . . . .
I think this highlights the difference between owners who regard themselves as custodians of something that belongs to the community and owners who regard clubs as their personal playthings. Michael Jackson was a friend of Al Fayed's, Fulham is owned by Al Fayed, so he doesn't see the problem in using one to mark his respects for the other. The fact that for most of us, whether we were fans of Jackson's music or not, there's no connection between the two doesn't register to him. I agree with Cottagecravens.
WDWW. I took it that CC was referring to Al Fayed, and I thought that the rest of my comment had made that clear. I'm not accusing anyone here of being disrespectful of the club. Al Fayed has done a lot for Fulham, but the whole MJ thing isn't his finest hour.
I feel that some of the above comments are just ? what can I say MAF came to Fulham when we were in deep s..t,look where we are now. Does it realy affect any of us whose bloody statue is stuck up behind a corner of the ground ,where possibly less than a quarter of the fans see it
CM - I agree that this isn't MAF's finest hour, but in terms of the club being his personal plaything, we can be grateful that Mo keeps his eccentricities away from where it really matters - on the pitch. Other chairmen both here and abroad get involved in transfers and put pressure on managers to pick certain players. The guy who owns one of my local non-league clubs even made himself manager last season. You'd never see Mo going behind a manager's back to sack a senior member of the coaching set-up as has happened at Chelsea or Birmingham. So, while I'm not keen on it, I can forgive his crazy MJ fixation. Although please God let me never see someone at the Cottage wearing one of these: http://shop.fulhamfc.com/retproddetail.aspx?d=56&id=1458
fulhamish, fair point. In many ways Al Fayed has been an exemplary chairman (after being a little impatient with managers in his early years). I agree, he lets the professionals get on with their jobs. We have a lot to be thankful for. roscafre, get your history right. We had already pulled ourselves out of trouble before Al Fayed bought the club. One year before he turned up we got back the rights to stay at the Cottage and the season before he took over Micky Adams' side got promoted from the bottom division. We wouldn't be where we are now without Al Fayed, but his myth-making of being solely responsible for turning things round is disrespectful for what the Jimmy Hill regime achieved with far fewer resources.
Concur with what a lot of you guys are saying. MAF is a bit of a mentalist and seems Hell-bent on making us a bit of a laughing stock, but at least he lets the football people get on with things, and runs a tight ship too. I'd rather this than have an Abramovich.
