I don't think that's what I said Col was it? I'm just sick of people whinging and slagging our team off after the 2nd game of the season, yeah we were bad, so what, it's the second game of the season playing a new formation with new players. If anyone thinks that we should have won or that we wont lose, think again. But the way so many fans are totally over reacting is not only disappointing, but down right depressing.
There certainly has been some over reaction. But this is a forum and if, as you have said, we played badly, then surely people are allowed to comment on it, criticise selection etc and generally debate the matter?
What was not acceptable was not the defeat. It was the manner of the defeat. I have seen us play far worse than that & been more heavily beaten, but I can't ever recall watching us play a half of football before & not winning one tackle. That is where the doom & gloom comes from. Being physically outfought by a non physical side takes a lot of doing but we suceeded in this. I know this won't be universally agreed with, but I didn't think that Tottenham looked particulay special yesterday & are a far way behind the top four.
The Talksport pundits commented on this. They described it as "very un-harry like". Is it just because of did dodgy knee perhaps? I do envy sides like Burnley with a vocal manager on the touchline. It was pleasing to see him so disappointed in his post match PC- but like others have said, he looked defeated. I'm sorry but we're the fans, we're the ones who're allowed to mope and be miserable. He's supposed to be an inspirational authority figure- he needs to pull himself together. We can all shrug and say "it's difficult"- what about some proactive suggestions for the future. That's what we're paying him for
Terryb is spot on. I suspect that no-one at all is significantly upset or at all surprised that we lost away to Tottenham, what causes the angst is the absolutely lifeless non-performance. All we've heard since Bobby Z's winner is "lessons learnt", "young & hungry", "keep the core together & build on the spirit". Yet yesterday we go away to Tottenham, having binned off half the team that won promotion in favour of highly touted (yet essentially invisible) new recruits and sleepwalk through a gutless & less than half hearted tonking. Haven't we been here before? It seems somewhat familiar somehow. After the overpaid, underachieving lethargy of the past 24 months, I can't fathom why anyone associated with QPR would not think that to have any chance of anything away at Tottenham nothing less than 100% graft would be required. While the players seem to be aware of this in their post match analysis, why were they seemingly oblivious to the requirement pre-match? Beyond bewildering. But hey ho, I guess it's only two games in, 36 to go, our season starts in September etc.
I honestly don't, or didn't until what you've written subsequently. The 'dog with a bone' characteristic is merely because of a genuine desire on my part to understand, is all. If the team was winning I suspect that none of us would give a fig if there was a rotting corpse in the dugout. I cannot believe that a man that could have gone out on the high of a play-off triumph, but chose not to, is tired of the whole thing and simply going through the motions. For me at least, the propensity to get animated in the technical area, dance little jigs when we score and swear at fourth officials is not particularly important. In my naïveté I'm hoping that he's signed up and coming talent in the likes of Caulker, Fer and Mutch. I'd have liked to have kept Hitchcock and would like to see Ehmer, Petrasso etc. given at least places on the bench too. As you have said, let's see.
I didn't watch it and have only just seen the result. Just seen the team line up and was very surprised that the new signings played ... as said before away games then first player on the team sheet is Henry for me. This player takes no prisoners and sets the tone IMO. It's done and it will take a bit of time to get things right. It looked good against Hull but remember this was Spurs first game they were always bound to hit the blocks running. I wouldn't worry yourselves with formations at this stage and there may well be more pitfalls coming ... Seasons is on we do our job and support 100%
Not yet, as we both know. (To nobody in particular) We should not fall into the trap, however, of thinking that because we believe the club has made 'quality signings' blame for current performances must therefore fall exclusively at the feet of management. Personally, I don't believe the old cliche that players win matches and managers lose them.
COL's still not talking to me. Fu*k this. Am I to be put into a moral coventry forever for one stupid indiscretion? Bollox to that
Swords.......if you're referring to your rather poorly worded sentence in reply #15 I honestly have no idea what on earth that was supposed to mean. However, I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with this thread. Finally, why would I want to talk to you?
I seen you said you didn't have time to read so I wondered had you seen the prequel to the film Zulu? Its a cracking film, with Peter O'Toole and Burt Lancaster. Forget it. Does disingenuity come to you naturally or is it an acquired talent? Talk about two-faced.
FFS, I just recommended a movie and you think I'm winding you up. I can assure you I wasn't. I thought I remembered you saying before that you liked the film Zulu. Anyway, forget it. You're bloody paranoid you are. (EDIT: Parts 1 and 2 if you're interested) http://vimeo.com/19519108 http://vimeo.com/19697852
It's a tricky one. I would love to see Ned on the right of the three... it's the only place he can play comfortably in the 352 but that leaves Caulker on the left if Rio stays in the middle. Failing that... Yun has great pace and great positional awareness... could he be the pacy left sided centre back, or is he too short? it would certainly give Traore more licence to get forward, provided Yun was happy with being more defensive and provided we play a defensive midfielder for cover. That leaves Caulker the odd man out... but given Rio's age and Ned's injury record last season, and rotation of the three wouldn't necessarily be out of the question. Faurlin must start. It's up to the new boys to win their place in the side...no-one in a PL team should expect a free pass into the starting lineup - reputation means sweet FA in this league.
