Thoughts? "The French newspaper claim that Stambouli's father Henry was working behind the scenes at Marseille before he was fired by president Vincent Labrune last summer and he now does not want his son to join them." Shades of Ince? http://talksport.com/football/transfer-boost-swansea-top-target-rules-out-marseille-move-140825109822#WkWcpCYDVDFFwvV0.99
Don't think so. His father just doesn't want him joining them. Ince pimped atom right across Europe, cannot compare the two at all. Looks like we might be inching closer to getting him. Come on Huw!!!
I hope this is true. We desperately need a strong defensive midfielder after we capitulated in midfield second half against Burnley. It's a no brainer with Britton out long term.
He has been mentioned with a few clubs in Europe but, as you point out, daddy hasn't pimped him to chosen clientele. Hope you are right but. I can't help thinking of the recent mention of only wanting players who want to be here. I haven't seen anything suggesting he is interested in playing for Swansea.
Just get the players we have to do their job properly. If they do that then we don't need additions. If I did my job like Shelvey did on Saturday - I wouldn't be in the job very long.
We don't have enough cover in central midfield... - Leon will be out for a month - Fulton may be available but I'm not sure how good he is - Tom Carroll, also not sure if he's up to it On Saturday we desperately needed to take Shelvey off, but had no options on the bench. Against a better team, that will definitely cost us points. We DO need more quality in that department. So come on Huw, get the credit card out and get this Strambouli chappy in.
Campion agreed. The shortage of any quality central midfield player on Saturday was clear to all and left Monk with no option but to leave it as it was. Definately need for another strong combative Midfield player.
YJ, Jazz is well short of PL standard in my view. I don't really know why he's still here tbh. I'd be very surprised if he gets a single minute on the pitch in a league game this season.
What a turnaround - in the recent poll here how many voted for strengthening midfield? I know I didn't. I can see the point but we do have injuries, and one bad game shouldn't provoke a knee jerk. However, Stambouli looks top drawer and I'd love him to come here. Not sure where that would leave Leon though - Stambouli is Britton on acid.
Dragon we need a squad to ba able to deal with the injuries. Another in our next game and we are struggling. I dont want us to be in the same position as last year where injuries meant many players had to play every game over the xmas period. for me it is a full back and a strong midfield player. squad complete.
Sadly Leon is moving towards the twilight of his career and the time to be looking for his successor is now. Call me sentimental but I hate it when a player who has been a favourite is coming towards the end of his career. But as a club we must move on.
Montpellier Chairman doesn't want him to come to us... http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2014/montpellier-president-wants-stambouli-to-go-to-marseille/ Ps - was Les Dawson's father in France during the Second World War?
**** me what a looker. An uglier version of Jabba The Hutt. "If the others interest him and he really wants to go to Swansea, I will not stop him" <Yoda Voice> Hmmmm.... Sense, Jabba speaks"
Britton out longterm? Where did you hear that? Not what I've heard, he's back in two weeks was my info.................
But f we can get his replacement in and don't need to over rely on Leon, provided he is managed like Giggs and Scholes, we can still squeeze a few years out of him I think.
Fiorentina have moved to beat Swansea City for Montpellier wing-back Benjamin Stambouli. Both clubs are understood to have offered â¬5 million for the Frenchman. âAll I can tell you is that an official fax arrived from Fiorentina asking for the player,â Montpellier coach Roland Courbis revealed. âThis is why I didnât call him up, as if heâs thinking of other matters, he cannot concentrate on his football. âIt is a delicate time, but this is now the moment that either Fiorentina or Swansea need to reach an agreement for him.â article written 24 august
