As a massive Hamilton fan as some may know ... It was a racing incident but why on earth would Rosberg think he could overtake round the outside of that corner?? 1 move out of 9 or 10 will work there. He hung round the outside and should have lifted off and tucked back in behind. It was just a clumsy move but there should be no punishment from the FIA. However Mercedes need to give him a big slap on the wrist as it cost them and Lewis many points. Well done to Nico for extending the championship lead to 29 points, but there is still much more left in this season.
If Maldonado was in Hamilton's position there would have been a penalty to him too. The FIA love giving him (and Perez) penalties for no reason at all.
Like certain footballers who dive, Maldo does have previous which always seems to give a presumption that he is at fault. To be fair, he normally is though...........
I think the general rule of thumb is 'its Maldonado's fault'. However if Maldonado is not in sight it either defaults to being Whitmarshes or Hamiltons fault.
I don't know about that, it's probably one of the best overtaking opportunities on the track. Bottas showed how you could go two abreast into the corner and make the move stick. Others had a go and ducked out when it didn't look like the move was on any longer. It's perfectly possible to have a go there and escape unscathed, particularly with the large run-off area if things go really wrong.
Its the sort of move where you have to be pretty confident that you can get alongside to get the inside for the next corner. If it goes wrong you either jump the bumps or slot in behind. It seems Rosberg got caught in no mans land, I'm not sure what he was expecting to happen and I'm sure he wasn't expecting to puncture Hamilton. In the end it was the tiniest bit of clumsiness that has sent shock waves through the team.
General rule is as team mates you give a little more room to make sure contact doesn't happen, especially the silly type that happened.
Can anybody actually help explain why, despite the consensus in the F1 world being that Rosberg was just "clumsy", that his obvious culpability for a racing incident didn't get punished, or even investigated? These are some of the best drivers in the world, surely clumsiness is punishable? I think they need to re-think their strategy on stewarding, purely because the way it's currently set, what's to prevent someone clumsily pushing someone into the wall to win the WDC? Nobody wants to see it won like that again.
Stewarding in F1 has always been inconsistent. One of the reasons I'm all for not dishing out punishment for every single incident. Punish those incidents that are clearly reckless, but let the racing incidents slide.
Rosberg knew very well the move was not on, he hasn't got the skill or confidence to take on Hamilton, I am convinced he was only too well aware of the possible results of his actions !!!
Would Rosberg honestly turn in and risk smashing his front wing to bits and not necessarily puncture Hamiltons tyre? I am a fan of Hamilton as a racer, he is super quick, but the guy is even faster when it comes to crying to the media. Rosberg had been quicker down that straight and would have had 50 more laps to have a bash at Hamilton. I think its completely ridiculous. What a faff.
Question is, if he did fluff it like it looked like, why not just hold your hands up? It worked out well for him though didn't it? Intentional or not...
I would be supportive of that stance, had one driver not been so clearly disadvantaged by the racing incident compared with the other, especially since the clumsy one was not the one as severely disadvantaged. The stewards just going "meh, **** happens" is just an odd approach to take when the majority of observers have declared Rosberg is the most culpable in the incident...

Obviously you didn't watch the onboard of Rosberg right before the crash..the hard right tug of the steering wheel????? You can check it on youtube. You look at it and tell me there isnt a hint of being deliberate. That is what made me think that he was not only clumsy, but there was a hint of being deliberate. What was the reason for the big tug of the steering wheel to the right? Check for yourself and you will see.
