The conundrum of who Felix might select for this one is ever greater than usual. We might even see a third string - .........................Lenz.................. ..Oral...Mackintosh..Amorebieta...Lenthard.. .........Magath....Maunders...Grant... ....................Ruiz.... ..............Trotta...Mitroglou...
To be honest I'm not bothered who Felix puts out tonight ... so long as it's not any of the youngsters under 20. Full allocation of our fans going and the atmosphere could be a tad vitriolic; not something I'd want them to experience.
I'd actually love to see the likes of Amorebieta, Ruiz and Mitroglou play tonight. More likely to see Burgess, Fotheringham and Dembele though.
It should be interesting to see what team is put out. MaGath says that he will turn to experience and so I presume that means Amorebieta, Kaca and perhaps Burn but I can't think of anyone else who will be able to help out, everyone else is sold ! I know we are in a mess but I really do hope that he sorts this out. I can't make much of an argument for him at present but I am a patient man and willing to endure it for a little longer - much to the amusement of my West London fellow workers. Luckily they are most armchair Liverpool and Man U fans and have quietened down a bit this week.
Bettinell Voser Hutch Burn Staf R. Williams Hoogland Parker David Woodrow McCormack Much better Felix.
Dan Burn lives! Starting: Bettinelli; Voser, Hutchinson, Burn, Stafylidis; Hoogland, R. Williams, Parker, David; Woodrow
Glad to see Burn in think he needs to start playing ahead of Burgess! Would like to see Voser ... Think Tunnicliffe needs to be looked at as well
Fotheringham is on for Parker let's hope he's better than the other night against Wolves although he couldn't be worse . Although it appears chucking in lots of youngsters hasn't quite worked and needs to be changed somebody has to explain to me the logic of playing 32 year old Fotheringham in a league cup tie ahead of somebody like Hyndman???
And he's gone off with an injury. I'd never wish an injury on anyone but it wouldn't be all that bad if he was out long term. It would mean that not only does he not get into the team but we might actually go and sign someone else. McCormack has put us 1-0 up, fans start singing "Ross McCormack, he cost more than your ground". Love it.
So this is what it feels like to win a game of football, feels pretty good. Hopefully the start of the turnaround this season, let's build on it.
Couple of big boxes ticked; a goal for McCormack and a win. Looking forward to hearing how we played.
Hopefully there's no wholesale changes at the weekend. We might be forced into one with Parker being injured but apart from that I'd leave it as it is. Must be a great feeling for the lads tonight.
I'd love to see Felix show a bit of confidence and loyalty in these guys and name an unchanged side for Cardiff(barring injuries), sadly Felix doesn't seem to work that way and I can easily see 3-4 changes being made and it'll just upset the momentum these players have created tonight.
I disagree. A win is a win, and the whole squad will feel that bit happier in their work this week. I don't know who played particularly well tonight and deserves to keep their place, but we should pick a team to beat Cardiff, not one to bask in the glory of beating Brentfod (that last bit sounds wrong, doesn't it?). I'm glad to see Burn and Voser given a start and I'd be happy for them to play on Saturday, but I don't think we have to go unchanged in order to build on tonight's momentum. To be honest, tonight I don't even want to think about future games; I just want to enjoy the win. Say it again: the win.
By all accounts Marcus Bettinelli and Dan Burn were immense. As others have said lets hope we don't see many changes on Saturday, especially to a solid and (relatively) experienced defence. Still going to level criticism at Felix though - with Eisfeld on the bench, how on earth could he elect to bring Fotheringham on for Parker? The result was obviously important to moral and how bittersweet that it was against Brentford. The fact that the goal came from McCormack should give confidence a double bost. And indeed here is the winner:
Much better and deserved win. A first goal from McCormack, SEVEN shots on target, and a win under our belt - should be a massive confidence boost. Well Done
