wow, wasn't around yesterday so have come on this evening and cant believe how many threads there are - as this board every got so much interest in a 24 hour period? I couldn't really find a real place to ponder so its a new thread. sorry! Its a sad fact that I came away from a derby match happy that we had lost 1-0. The build up to the match I was expecting a 3,4 or 5 nil slaughtering. The game itself. As an overview I would say Norwich had all the talent we had the determination. I thought if Norwich had a bit more oomph my pre match worries could have been realised. Normally we are good at set plays so to concede the goal we did was disappointing. Having a seat in Churchmans it seemed at the time that Gerken should of 'taken Grabbans head off' and the replays make it even worse. On the subject of Grabban he should have got 4 himself. The pushing forward but with no attacking instinct was calamitous and could have been disastrous. I wouldn't actually say that we ever looked like scoring but Henshall did actually liven things up -probably means we will never see him again. I wont go through my individual thoughts per player but I have seen Mings getting slaughtered so I thought I would bring him into my pondering. He has the ability to slip up but he also saved us on numerous occasions. He has come from somewhere about 8 tiers down the football period and has never had the opportunity to truly learn his trade. Giving his catching up period then I don't mind him being here and part of the first team picture - possibly not ahead of a full international though. In general we just lack quality- its an average squad and the bench is total mediocrity. We went one nil down and knew unless it was a set piece we wouldn't get two goals back. When you bring on Bru, Henshall and Sammon - is that meant to scare the opposition manager? it scared me but definitely not in a positive way. How the hell have we got here? Its not a reaction to the Norwich game, its a general thought that always goes through my head at games over the last couple of seasons. We have spirit and McGoldrick - that's it really. We appear to be regressing to the RK era of trying to draw 0-0 and not be very good at it! -attacking is an out that relieves pressure and gets the ball away from your own goal maybe we should try it! Can Mick turn it round - The real annoyance with MM for me is we have let players like Taylor go. He may not be full first team material or what you want to hang on to a point with but he can add a spark which I just don't see us having. The bigger question possible is if not Mick who can get this set of players performing. We have let so many go without replacing them that I cant see an attacking threat in the squad. If you go 3-5-2 (seems obvious to me seeing as how we play 3 CB's every game) then the midfield 3 are??? If you play Mcgoldrick just behind the front two - who are you going to play ahead of him as the strike pair? We need 3 players but in all honestly it could be 4 or 5. A striker that knows where the back of the net is, a central midfielder who is either a) attack minded or b) has the vision to set up an attack and someone truly outstanding out wide. I would probably see if we can get Ambrose in as a short term fix - Surely a one year deal has to be worth it. Our Keeper doesn't install confidence in me and after yesterday I am fuming with him. I apologize that this has reverted to my old 'essay' length posts and it is rather incoherent. Just thought I would chuck my thoughts out there.
Good post TB and just keep on chucking up as much as you wish... So to speak! You are definitely showing your age with the 'Churchmans' reference! I thought it was just another typical Championship game between two fairly average teams! Not much quality on show but unfortunately Norwich showed their quality when and where it mattered. Can you imagine what the Geiorge Burley promotion winning team would have done against that lot yesterday!
I agree with a lot being said here. Mings showed a lot of heart yesterday and some skill too. Still got a lot to learn but I like him. I hope Mick isn't too stubborn to try something different in our next game.
And on the subject of the site. It will naturally get busier as more and more people start to call for Mick's head. There's always more threads when things aren't going right.
For what its worth I thought we would lose by a much bigger margin before the game, we were up against a team that were playing in the Prem last season, most of their players I would guess are on £25K+ a week and against a team that in the main is made up of free transfers, youngsters, and the odd loan player it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Until the Clubs owner makes funds available to bring in some new players Im not expecting things to improve, its true he backed the previous 2 managers to the tune of millions and Dumb and Dumber frittered it away in an almost criminal fashion, but the fact he blew his cash on rubbish isnt MMs fault and certainly isnt the fans fault either so come on ME back your man and repay the fans faith in ITFC, its your Club for christs sake.
I know mate Not a bad shout to be honest. It's just Mick's ways are starting to grind on me a bit and I don't know if he'll ever really have time for an out and out attacking player. His comments about Jack Marriott that I already highlighted pissed me off more than I thought. Fletcher would be his type though.
Fair play mate I was joshing you as well. I was at the game and tbh there wasn't a huge gulf in class just that Norwich produced one bit of quality and we couldn't! I do fear about us not having any creativity as we all do and if a Mick doesn't announce some new faces by the end of this week then I shall fear the worse!
Thoughts on the game; Naarwich were the better side. Goal looks like it was offside. But....We are not good enough in many areas. Keeper is not good enough. Back 4 should be played as a back 3. Our midfield deficiencies is killing us, nor only going forward but also in defence. Sammon is not good enough, would rather see Jack given a PROPER chance rather than sent out on loan. Didsy played behind a front 1 or 2 depending on defence formation. MM must start thinking outside his box as his tactics of setting us up not to lose are not working! His dullness and negative football are fast turning fans against himself. If we loose on Saturday (I think we will) we are in the brown stuff!
I know what you mean SD but MM hasnt had any cash to spend while hes been here so I dont honestly know what he would do with it. I was/ am very pissed off that Jack has gone to Carlisle I thought this was the season when he would get Championship experience by being on the bench at least, Wordsworth going to Rotherham doesnt bother me as I never rated him anyway.
Looks like we won't be getting any more permanent signings in this window lads! It will be patch and mend loans if we're lucky! If this is true than that's me done for this season!
" If this is true than that's me done for this season! " Guarantee it's not ! Reminds me of your standard woman " I'm never drinking again........... " I think we both know you will Warky
To be fair to MM he has not used the loan market as a short term fix but more like a try before you buy/sign which is IMO how it should be used.
