I was in walton street club before the game today talking to a few Stoke fans they said they have got free coach travel to every away game this season which is a great gesture from the club so for today's match they had only paid £16 for a ticket and travel. I know we did it to a few games last season but i wondered if City will do it for any games this season

Each premier league club is given £200k to spend on helping away followings in one way or another. Surely enough to offer free coach travel to every home game. God knows where that cash went last season.

This was discussed at the FWG meeting. James Mooney said that the club are considering how best to spend our share this year as apparently they made a loss last year by doing the free travel for half the season. I mentioned Stoke as they did it free all season and are doing it again and JM wasn't sure how they'd managed to make that work. He mentioned Man U who used the money to subsidise away tickets instead of travel, which most in attendance agreed was a good way to do it since not everyone wants to use official travel, but everyone does need a ticket.

£200k / 19 = £10526 per away game on average. That can then be applied to different fixtures with weightings based on ticket cost and allocation size, eg. Maybe £5 reduced ticket price for Man Utd away (high cost, larger allocation) and £2 reduced price for a ticket away at Burnley (lower cost, smaller allocation). Those are just values out of thin air to make the point, haven't applied any actual calculations to see what the relative values would be - could be higher or lower, but a £10,000 subsidy for an away game with an allocation of 2000 would work out at £5 reduction, hence using that for the example.

As PLT says, that seems to make more sense as everyone needs a ticket for the away game but many people prefer to use their own travel (or it simply makes no sense to use official travel due to their location).

judging by your maths they could just about offer 5 quid off every ticket. OR they could weight and if the ticket is 20-30 quid dont bother but if it goes higher offer a discount

The cash went on free travel to five away games; Arsenal, Spurs, Southampton + two others that I can't recall.

Arsenal, Tottenham (twice actually), Southampton, Everton and Swansea I seem to recall. It was hardly half the season they tried to say.

I took opportunity of that twice (Spurs and Everton) and, if it goes on travel rather than ticket, I'd take opportunity again this season.

Free travel would be of no use to me, i wish the Premier League could strike a deal with the train companies to offer discounted fares with a match ticket or something. It'll never happen but that would be the dream!

Hopefully i'll manage to get tickets to the games close to home this season, Stoke, Liverpool, Everton, Man U, Man C and Burnley.

Money should be used to discount ticket prices.

If Stoke are offering free travel then they can get better deals from the coach companies so the saving is even more. This wouldn't happen with tickets to the match.

The thing with Stoke is it's very near other large cities so easy to locate coaches.
And it's probably easier for them to get to most away games since they're in the midlands really. As we know Hull is out of the way and on coach the closest away game is probably Burnley/Manchester clubs which are a good 2 hour on coach.

We have ALWAYS used local companies apart from wembley etc so I think it's down to supporting local companies with the club, I doubt we'd strike a deal with anyone in out area to provide coach travel on the cheap.

Stagecoach have had a flat £1 fare since the start of the World Cup, and is still running - Its called Escape The Football This Summer - £1, and is presumably to attract people out of their houses.

I know it was £16 for home fans but the same for stoke fans is a joke! I spoke to a QPR fan last week and he had paid £60 for 2 adults and 2 kids! I paid £120 for the same!
