The manager has been put on notice. Another bad performance next week and the job goes to the chooks in the garden. They certainly couldn't do any worse.

Congratulations to The Ghost who goes top tonight - he was the only one to correctly forecast a unique score (Wigan v Blackpool) and so scored that bonus and the bonus for being the week's top scorer. Two correctly forecast Watford's 4-1 congrats to OFH and Chris 13.
26 out of 27 of us (shame on Zen :) )correctly put Watford down for a win but the only other to get the margin right was Ghost.

So, not a high scoring week but at least the small island s moved up the table - if only because Baby Dan and Yello failed to predict.

    The table :

At this rate I need to visit the bookies next week. That should put a stop to this early season form!

Thanks for doing this Leo still trying to work out the scoring, I think you'll find I also said Watford would win by 3 clear goals.

Sorry I missed your name in dispatches - but scored you correctly - you were the second highest scorer of the day.

You gained 10 points for predicting, 5 for a correct away prediction for Norwich plus another 5 there for the correct goal margin=10; Deby and Wigan both scored you 3 for a correct home win prediction although no extra points as you got the margin wrong; Brentford 20 points for the correct score but no extra as others also predicted that; for Watford you got 3 for a home win and 5 for the correct margin and those were doubled as it is Watford=16.
    So Predict 10
    Norwich 10
    Derby 3
    Wigan 3
    Brentford 20
    Watford 16

    total 62 = great score.

I wasn't for a moment doubting your scoring, what I seemed to miss was the new change in scoring, what is the bonus for being top?

No - I know you were not querying the score - I just thought it good to set it out - might help others too as it is quite messy. Bonus for top of the week is 30

Thanks Leo, makes it hard to win once somebody gets top a couple of times, thought that about the FA cup. You can work hard getting predictions right only to lose by somebody getting a couple of fluke results in the semis and final. I agree more points per round but not double, there is no reward for early predictions. I appreciate you need to keep an interest. Similarly in the old scheme nobody raced away too early this season there are two leaders nearly 100 points ahead of everybody else. I really think to score the best number of points in a week is reward enough, why an extra 30 points on top of that?

Too late to change back in midstream I know Leo, but I tend to agree here.

Whilst I appreciate I have benefitted from it :)emoticon-0111-blush) I don't see anything wrong with the 30 point thing. It's obviously the case that this will distort the table in the early weeks as the people who come top in the early weeks will be at the top. Next week it will probably help someone catch up.

I'd be more worried about the fact that I could be using my ghostly powers to travel forward in time and check out the scores..........<ghost><ghost><ghost>

Don't get me wrong ghost, you only get the points by your own skill & salutations to you for your expertise, I wasn't aware of the change this year (my fault should have read up) I just don't see the point in changing it when the completion has always been successful and popular and after just three weeks the table is so distorted.

I value the feedback. It is not too late to alter the scoring in respect of the 30 point bonus going forward but for the moment I think it worth trying. I find if you make no changes to a competition it becomes stale and people "slip away." Two or three years back SLB introduced a different way of scoring where your points were not under your own control but depended on others - it was not so popular and we changed it back. My reason for the 30 points is the opposite of what you are saying - for me it was the thought that last year the leaders gradually became clear and no good forecasting would close the gap - here a bit of luck - happening to have a lucky week could make all the difference. I hope to see the "week's best" spread around so sombody can jump from mid table to becoming a contender. My own position was from one very lucky week - that can happen to everyone.

I will give it a few more weeks but please both of you - and others give your thoughts on it - I am very happy to hear them.

To an extent I agree Leo - in that last year if you found yourself even 80 points adrift of the leadership you would have thought it very difficult to bridge that gap. I think that even with this system that 35 + rounds will even things out in the end. What I'm not so keen on is the 25 point bonus for unique results, which may be leading to late tipping - ie. people waiting till the last minute to see what possible results have not been tipped. What I don't think you can do is change horses in midstream however. One system for the whole year seems the only fair way. Maybe a suggestions thread after the season would be a good idea.
