Not sure but I think that is just a stupid FA rule? Don't think FIFA or UEFA cup-tie players. He wouldn't be able to play on Thursday as we have already named our squad and would not be able to change it till the group stages.
According to SB, Blackburn were keen to sell but now have had a change of heart....Looks as if it won't happen... If I was Rhodes I'd bung in a transfer request, because lets be fair he'll be waiting ages to get in the prem with the chicken rustlers.
cup tied rule is a mouth full of moth idea . why not make it for league games too ? a player can play about 20 league games and still be eligible for another team in the league in the cup getting off the bench in the 1st round will put you in quarantine for the rest of the season
I have on multiple occasions made my feelings known on the cup tie rule. (In case you missed it, I called it a bag of **** and an awful ruling)
Made this very point last season. The transfer window makes the cup tied idea totally out of date. I understand why it USED to be in as it stopped a team buying a cup final winning side when they knew they were in the final. Totally pointless now as cups aren't in January and unless you are Nostradamus then you have no idea if you are in the final or not.
I would definitely throw Bruce into the deal; it seems likely a centre-half is what they want, and I would be perfectly happy with Davies, Chester, Dawson, Maguire, Mcshane, with even Figureroa if truly desperate.
You still get cup tied in Europe. A very recent example I can think of is Salah. And yes you do actually need to get on the pitch to become cup tied. I'm not entirely sure if the qualifying rounds are counted as a separate competition or if they tie you for the proper stages, but I'm 90% it's all counted as one. I'm certain I remember of a high profile example where a player was cup tied for Europe after playing in qualifiers but I just can't remember who or when for the life of me, just one of those things I'm positive did actually happen.
Rule change from 2010, it appears you can appear for 2 clubs Begins..... "UEFA relaxed its rules on players appearing for two teams in one season in the Champions and Europa League. The executive committee agreed that a player who appears for a club in any of the preliminary rounds of the Champions League or Europa League can play for another team in the competition proper as long as his original team is eliminated in the preliminary competition. "The rules have been relaxed regarding what the English call "cup-tied" players, that is players who have already played for one team in a competition in a season, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino told Reuters. "From next season, if a player's club is eliminated and he signs for a new club by the end of the summer transfer window on September 1 he can play for his new club in either competition. "If he is not signed by the end of the summer window, he can move in the January window." The one stipulation that remains is that clubs can add up to three new players in January, only one of whom will be eligible if they have previously played in the qualifying rounds.
David Burns ‏@bbcburnsy 32m Fascinating Hull City and Blackburn and Jordan Rhodes deal. I'll predict a transfer request this week. #hcafc Has something happened that I don't know about?
Their coach flew to Thailand or something to talk to their owner about it. The rumors in the media were that he wanted Rhodes to be sold so he could get the cash for other transfers. Could be there is even more going on than the rumors are implying.
Yes, the way Brucey spoke was implying he knew something the rest of us didn't. That statement seemed pretty cut and dried but the fact he was still saying "we'll see what happens this week" and "it's not about money now" definitely implied he knows something. Very possible that bowyer has told him he wants to sell and is happy with the proposed deal but it was blocked at board level.
There's talks that Rhodes will hand in a transfer request sometime in the next few days.. I just cant see this happening. Everything ive read about Rhodes over the years suggests he's a very loyal & professional lad. He's happy & settled at Blackburn and only just signed a contract extension. Im sure if an offer was accepted at board level, he would come to speak to us and we'd probably sign him, but that will only happen if we can agree a fee, which seems very unlikely reading the statement on the BRFC official site.
I disagree, I think he'll force their hand. He hasn't until now had a Premier League offering money for his services. Plus it involves his Uncle Steve Agnew (our assistant) who ?I am sure will have been having chats on the phone to his nephew, don't you think? It's human nature.
But a Premier League has made a serious attempt to bring him in. He might be professional, but when this sort of thing happens, your head can be turned and you have to think about what is best for a) your career, and b) your family (a member of which just happens to be our assistant manager).
