Did we really expect anything?

I remember Hoddle talking about this fixture a couple of seasons ago, when he was a pundit, explaining that QPR should view it as a bonus game and an opportunity to try things out since they would probably end up with no points anyway.

Now granted the second game of the season is an unusual time to be quite so radical, but we have got a bunch of players who have not played competitively together very much and who need match experience, so perhaps that was today's approach.

Beyond that all I can say to the doom-merchants is - get real, there are 36 more games and get behind the boys, not on their backs ALREADY!!

I expected some grit and determination but no points.

However, I agree that far to early to get too worried just now.

If the players had your attitude that you think that you are there just to make the numbers up and you have lost before getting out of bed then like two seasons ago you wont last long and should not be a premiership team. You should go into every single game believing you can get something no matter who you are playing..4-0 is a hammering today and i really see qpr as relegation candidates and so will all the other teams...

I did, I expect something every game, otherwise what's the point? Obviously I end up disappointed a lot, but not for long, always a new start next game.

I must admit I did think this might happen in the Summer, especially when you look at the quality of players the top teams are bringing in; it does make you wonder whether we're going to get stuffed by the top 7 all season.

Perhaps it's indicative of the fact that it's an EPL of 7 with the remaining 13 fighting it out for the remaining 10 'treasured' places. Here's hoping that one more team joins Crystal Palace and Burnley in being marginally worse overall than ourselves over the season! :)

I expect 100% effort as a minimum. If we then lose or get outclassed so be it. Todays lack of effort was a disgrace to everyone that spent money going.

I did expect a little more fight today as well. Although I was not at the game today, I caught up with the match report just now. Let's be honest, we did not expect much from this game today but what we do expect is for every player to give 100% in these games. Let's be honest, the team does need time to ' gel ' but can this group of players do that in quick time, bearing in mind that this was probably our strongest team bar Vargas. Let's be honest, we were by far the weakest team to be promoted last season. We won a great emotion filled playoff final but on the day we played a poor second to Derby County. But that's football these days.A league played over 46 games should allow the two best teams to be promoted and if a third is permitted then it should be the third placed, not a series of one off cup matches to decide who goes up. Creates lots of excitement and loads of cash but there is a bit of luck on the day involved. I know when we were promoted last, we won the league convincingly but we trailed off at the end of the season, like we did last season but that Is no defence for our position at present. What worries me is that if we don't raise our game considerably before Christmas we will start panicking again and start wasting money on another bunch of mercenaries . What worries me is our set up where we also need a coach , Hoddle, who has never really proved himself at top level, apart from an average spell with England. What worries me is when Rednapp is seriously considering giving Gasgoine a job when what the lad really wants is help. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't find a more ardent R's fan than me but I do worry that we might be going down the same old path again. I just hope that I shall be proved wrong as otherwise it will be a long long season

I think Hoddle's spell with England was more than "average"...the best looking England team in decades - he took over from Venables who had already dragged us out of the dark ages - and would probably have kicked on if it wasn't for the play acting of Simeone and some unfortunate comments to a Times journalist.

I expect players to put a ****ing shift in. I expect Traore to not spend 90 minutes ponceing about and bottling every tackle. I expect us to defend set pieces as if it's something practiced during the week. I expect attacking players to have a bit of a go at their defence even if it doesn't come off every time. I expect a few men in the box when the ball goes wide and we are 3-0 down. I expect Phillips to put away a simple chance at 1-0. I expect international footballers to not play as if it's a friendly.

Fair point Canada. Maybe I was being a little harsh on him. Mind you , he had the country's best at his disposal then. He hasn't now. Anyway my point is why do we need another tactician when we already have Redknapp. It always smells of an old pals act to me and a deeper pocket for Tony!

I thought we'd get a point. Spurs were crap V West Ham, and had a midweek fixture in 30degree heat.

Much as it pains me to agree with this poster, that is part of the problem. Other teams approach us as an easy 3 points. However, sometimes that can backfire!

Can't argue with any of that. After last weeks positive performance, if not result, I was shocked at today's performance. I can't understand it.

I agree with that most are saying, very poor performance today but I have to say Spurs were very good Chadli, Eriksen and Lamela were running rings round our defenders. We need to look to our next home against Sunderland as well as the September fixtures man utd (away) Stoke (home) Southampton (away) if we haven't picked up win by then I'd fear for the worst.

We're unlikely to get anything at Utd or Saints. So really, we HAVE to beat Stoke and Sunderland in the two home games!! Huge pressure on next week's game against Sunderland!

well we could look at it that the previous 2 starts in the EPL we lost 4-0 & 5-0 , at least it took the 2nd game to get that hideous type of score line

I remember better a game early season 2 years ago at Spurs under Hughes, when we were as good as them for a big chunk of the game, but ended up losing anyway. Hughes didn't last much longer. We had a lot lot more about us that day than today. Today was really yet another game in a very long run of games under Arry where we have not played decent football, where the players available ought to have done better. I'm surprised there is so much patience being shown his inept performances- there have been many games like todays where his team selections and tactics have been widely criticised.
