Disagree about Barnes - he was a winger, not a striker, and he was both fast and skilful. As Leeds60 said, we actually needed a striker at the time, but you can't blame Barnes for that. Also, Fowler - fantastic player. Scored goals and was an incredibly accurate passer.

Worst players - Johnson and Duberry. We were a couple of players off a title-winning squad and instead we buy a midfielder from Derby who has just been relegated.
Ian Rush - missed chance after chance. Was clearly only here to pick up money for his retirement.
John Lukic - so unreliable. Perpetually let howlers in when the game was in the balance.
Aiden Butterworth - slowest, shortest, least skilful striker who ever played football. Skill move was to fall over and ask for a free kick. Absolutely ****ing useless.

Funny how it's so easy to forget over time. Fowler was signed for £12m and expected to be a demi-god. Instead, he was with us for 13 months, and injured for at least half of it. He scored 14 in 30 appearances, and we only got £3m for him. losing us £9m in a year - and even ended up paying a big chunk of his wages at Citeh! Totally unreliable and probably our biggest ever loss on a player. He definitely qualifies for this thread, chaps!

Before my time but my dad ****ing hated kenny Burns. He was the only person he said was a **** whilst in my presence. Burns ruined football for him when he said he didn't care if he was playing as long as he got paid.

For me the biggest waste of money was darren huckerby. I despised the useless ****.

He didn't play in his position though did he?

Barnes signed for Leeds United in 1981 for £750,000 plus £180,000 "tariffs" Barnes failed to adapt to his new role, scoring only one goal in 30 top-flight games as Leeds were relegated. Assistant manager Martin Wilkinson remarked that "We are not asking Peter to run his blood to water, but we do want to see him get a bit of a sweat occasionally. Barnes spent 1982–83 in La Liga with Real Betis, before returning to Elland Road for a run of 27 games and four goals in 1983–84. He was sold by Eddie Gray to Don Mackay's Coventry City for £50,000 - Source - Wiki

He might not fall into Useless but certainly a waste of money <ok>

I trust my memory rather than wiki. He was a bright light in a team that was falling apart.

Fowler was not a waste of money because of ability and contribution, it was because Ridicule bought him on a LEASE agreement and fcuked us over

Still comes under the thread title, Billy - waste of money (£9m plus). And all for 14 goals.

My memory of Barnes playing is watching him race down the left touchline at Elland Road, going past players. I also put more faith in that than what someone writes in Wiki-****ing-pedia.
