LVG has never managed in England. He is attempting to revitalise a club that has problems coming to terms with its present situation - hence the internal dynamics are probably not that good. He now has to buy players that he may not want at very high prices and hope that he can cobble together a good enough side. Add to that his volatile personality and I think Lucaas has some value in his points.
I've never been banned from any site. Only thing I've been banned from is Stan Collymore's Twitter feed for calling one of his tweets ironic
Its you who seems to have a memory problem. Van Gaal managed AZ Alkmaar from 2005 - 2009, are you really saying that someone who is 'generally accepted' in the football world as a top manager would go manage in the Dutch league for 4 years? Do you think he turned down the likes of Inter, Real Madrid & Chelsea to manage the great AZ Alkmaar? He WAS a top manager in the 90s, now he's just a good one and his achievements from 2000 onwards don't particularly stand out as being incredible enough to make him worthy of being classed as a top manager.
LVG had never managed in Spain or Germany before but seemed to do ok. I think he is caught between two rocks here, he want`s to play 4-4-2 but feels he hasn`t the players to do this (i think he needs three more for this), so has gone for the 3-5-2 formation which is still lacking a top class CDM. If he intends to stick with this i don`t expect any midfield arrivals untill January because i think he is waiting to see how Strootman recovers from his injury.
The problem is not just coming to terms with a new league it's also coming to terms with a club that is still grieving for its once iconic manager and a side that has gone past its sell by date. I truly don't think its a mere matter of formations.
With who he won the Eredivisie 2008/9 and then went on to win the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2009/10 plus reaching the final of the Champions league. Two years later he was made manager of the national team and did quite well in this years world cup. Hew seems to have lasted quite long, even up to thos year
The club as a whole are still mourning the loss af SAF, they need to get over it fast. As daft as it may sound, the fact we now have a good manager will make little difference if the chief exec doesn`t get his arse into gear. SAF and Gill were a great combination
Van gaal is: 1. 63 years old. in theory therefore he's got 5 years left if you go by ferguson. However its an individual trait is energy. you can see ferguson phoned it in the last 3/4 years which could put him back at 65 or so? when it all started going off. 2. an international manager for 4 years. What are i contacts and scouting networks really like now? I don't know but i don't see a queue of nondutch players lining up here. 3. old school. nearly the last of them too. anchelotti is the only comparison now as others like capello and ferguson are gone. Is van gaal more suited to a DoF teamwork structure? I see the bayern link and he converted schweinsteiger from winger to DM but he also fell out with people... I would win the german league so the main credit is getting to CL final. Az... excuse me but mcclaren won the thing with twente.. again.... hmmm.. 4. a top top manager in his day. the real question is "Is his day over" Picking a 5-3-2 (which is what it is when full backs are advanced rather than real wingers used) would seem to be rather regressive. Rodgers tried it and found out to his cos that midfield control is all important in football these days and one up means your 3 cbs look like spare pricks as well...... One feels that at this point a clear strategy and team struture is unclear. and with a week left in transfer window that means the guy is going to rely on rvp and rooney an awful lot.... utd fans will be hoping di maria arrives... but again... midfield, defence.... you have mata already.. janusaj? you buy dimaria it makes people feel better until utd are 6th again at christmas
no he didn't he signed rojo... shaw was being done under moyes as was herrara 12 months ago... those are very classic hangover signings that someone at old trafford felt should be done and van gaal at best seemed to agree prior to really taking over. whether he agreed or thought they were f'n wonder signings we will only know in 6 months time if both players actually play for him... and if he gets 18months or 2 seaosns in the job will either be playing still... thats the way it is.. We know however both were indeed long standing utd targets.
But as MITO said we are not seeing players stating that they are desperate to go and work with him - no matter what country they come from! Now people like Tobes merely laugh when I say that the United façade is very tenuous but Diego understood the fact. Whatever happens it won't be all as a result of what LVG did or did not manage to do.
I'm not arguing the case, just thought it was funny that he said LVG didn't have non-Dutch players lining up but none of the the signed are Dutch lol PS... Majority of the Shaw and Herrera deals may have been done by others but LVG would have agreed to them
It's reported that he's taking a pay cut to he here. And initial talks with Rodgers went very well, deal likely to be concluded this weekend.
Has lvgs time passed? The answer is no. Especially considering the managers whos own style is based on van gaals. Those hes met and coached along the way.
His stint with us will make him or break him. It's his time now. He needs to show he's grown up and is ready to harness his natural ability. If it goes the other way he'll probably end up getting them to play the Stones in the Cavern Club.
i am unsure, i am a bit apprehensive, but then i think we have that bit of unpredictability on the pitch again now that we did badly lose with luis gone, yes we know they are only a minute away from madness, but then they are also only a minute away from producing a moment of genuis. which one we get, time will tell, but i am glad we have other players who will be on the pitch which will take the focus off of sterling and coutinho and hopefully give them more space to work with, to setup sturridge ballo etc. assuming this is a done deal.
