Scotland and North Sea oïl have nothing to do with each other as the oïl is in international waters so it's a non starter as an argument for Scotland. This reminds me of Scotland's obsession ie the Jacobite Rebellion with Salmond in the role of Bonny prince Charlie. Charlie had Englishmen with him at Culloden who wanted Scotland to win and the Duke of Cumberland had Scotsmen with him who wanted Scotland to lose. As today there are Englishmen supporting Scotland and Scots supporting the union. So the third verse of the anthem is apt; "Grant ye that Marshall Wade, sealed by thy mighty aid, victory bring. May he sedition hush and like a torrent rush,REBELLIOS SCOTS TO CRUSH. God save The Queen." The no votes will win it just as like Culloden.
I just don't get that at all to be honest. Being pro-Scottish is not anti-English. I can't remember Salmond ever saying anything anti-English tbh. Nevertheless, I think the Scots should vote no and stick with a Union that's worked very well for 300-odd years. Its up to them though.

I don't understand what will happen to things like Scotland's defence and public healthcare after independence. In practical terms, how do you separate the provision of these services from the rest of the UK? The idea that you can break off a tenth or so of such complex and highly integrated services is preposterous. Any answers?

I posted that it REMINDS me of the Jacobite rebellion when a small detachment of the MANCHESTER REGIMENT fought with Bonnie prince Charlie and today we have English supporting Scotch independence so nothing much has changed. Many clans fought with the Duke of Cumberland for theunion and many Scots want to remain in the union, same difference as far as I can see. The oilfields are much further out than that though at least the majority of them are. It's like Argentina's claim to the Falklands which are 300 miles out to sea so no sorry, neither can claim anything as theirs.

Seeing as Scotland is not a sovereign state on its own it cannot claim anything as it's the UK's oïl.Now which of any of these oïl rigs is within 12 miles of anybody's borders? Also in 1999 Blair handed over 6000 square miles of "Scotland's" sea to England and that fact is not widely known. There is no exclusivity to Scotland here at all. If Scotland provided all the money which built the rigs then maybe they could claim it but as they didn't it's no more Scotland's oïl as the falklands are Argentina's.
