I know only too well about all the false dawns. Ive basically forgotten them because its pointless looking back, it achieves nothing and we can't change it. For now Cellino seems to believe in the hock for whatever reason. Its his club and his choice. We're three games into the season Shaks, three games thats all. My point is why does the Hock out thing need to be repeated ad nauseum on all treads. Fine, keep it mainly to this one and bash hell out of him on this one, thats my point
I know what you're saying Eire, regarding your 3 games in comment, well 3 games will soon be 6 games, 10 games etc etc when do we start to worry?
Any manager/coach or whatever has got to be given 10 games in my opinion. Ive little faith in the guy either, but having hired him, he deserves surely a couple of months. How many were doting on McD last season, three quarters way through a season and having shipped six against the wendies. At least now we have an owner who will take action and knows a hell of a lot more than the previous two outfits. Cellinos target is promotion and I dont believe hell jeopardise that by keeping a day longer than he sees fit
I would give him until the break for the international matches and then appoint someone who would have at least a week to get to know the squad
Having gone through a similar scenario last year with Steve Lomas at Millwall, when I was of the opinion to give him a chance when wiser heads (stand up Mighty) were calling for him to go, I have come to the realisation that you have to stand back and look at the situation without any emotion, your head must rule your heart. Questions that have to be asked: Is there anything in Hockawally and Junior's past history to indicate that they have the necessary attributes to take your club forward ? SL had a brief managerial history in Scottish football, where the standard is higher than Conference football, and his playing career was at a higher level than Hock's and Junior. Are the players that you presently have at the club of the required quality to compete at this level ? Looking at your club from the outside, the side that Grayson brought up from League 1 was of a much higher quality and played attractive and dynamic football and Grayson was a proven manager who should be plying his trade at a higher level than he presently is. Do you think that a week to get to know the players (if a new manager is brought in) is sufficient to get the current squad playing at a level that would make them competitive ? It took Ian Holloway a considerable amount of time to make Millwall competitive (at the bottom of the league ) and he is proven at this level. Does Cellino (who is in reality the president, owner and manager) have the necessary knowledge to be able to make Leeds competitive in the Championship ? Look at all the managers with Premiership experience who when confronted with the realities of managing a Championship club have floundered. Cellino may have the experience of running a Serie A club, but it is completely different to the reality of the Championship, which is the most competitive (not the best) league in Europe. Would bringing in another coach, working under the same conditions as Hock (being told what system to play, which players to select ) bring any positive benefits. ? Maybe Cellino has to make the hardest decision he has ever had to make and sack himself from the 'managing' side of the club and allow somebody of proven stature to run the footballing side (style of play, tactics, player aquisition)... and have a fundamental change of philosophy when it comes to managerial appointments and employ somebody for the long term......(if I was a Leeds supporter, I would want Grayson back at the club...he has done it and got the t shirt) The Leeds supporters deserve much more than they are currently being given, the crowds that you get and have had for the past few seasons whilst languishing in League 1 and the Championship are phenomenal, and if you are not listened to by Cellino will eventually whither away. Something needs to be done and done NOW, but Hock is not the problem...he is a symptom, the problem is Cellino's ego ............
Fcuking great post EIO ... brilliantly considered and balanced writing, and as a non emotional view I have to give it serious thought, because you are telling it from the outside ... yes, I agree Cellino's ego got the better of him when appointing Hock, and no matter how much he hopes Hock works out, its clear that this has been a serious blunder ... Hock is struggling, he clearly is not a manager, and the way he's set up the team so far has only helped to underline his shortcomings ... yes, its all new and players need to gel and all that, but this guy really doesn't have what it takes to manage at this level, or any level for that matter ... I hear you clearly, but here's the thing, when Lomas got the Millwall job I knew from the get go that it would be a disaster, and so it proved ... sometimes you see a bloke become a manager and you just know he ain't gonna crack it, e.g. Brian Kidd, Steve Kean, Steve Lomas, Hockaday, Ruud Gullitt, Gary McAllister (yes, I know), Dennis Wise ... now here's another thing, all the great managers have had a superb assistant, that genius in the wings helping him tactically, challenging his decisions and embedding his philosophy ... Clough openly admitted he was nothing without Peter Taylor, and so it proved ... Ferguson stated that without Brian Kidd at his side he would probably have failed and not made it at Scum (Kidd is now a key part of the Citeh set up) ... that's why I cried when Hock appointed Junior, it showed his insecurity and his arrogance all at once, and he really should have brought in an experienced assistant to help him at this level ... nah mate, Hock is just not going to do it for us, not now and not after 20 games, and the first step in fixing Leeds now is to get rid
Just read a piece by Phil Hay in the YEP that basically says it aint gonna work. He was trying to put a positive spin on things and say that Cellino and the fans need to give him time, but at the press conference Hock closed it out when stating "We're not dead yet" which Hay suspects was heartfelt and a slip up showing how he feels and what he thinks will happen. Hay also says that a coach forever looking over his shoulder is a tough ask and mentions the Caligari coach last season forever expecting Cellino's bullet. I feel for Hock but after 12-years of shyte I want more and I'm afraid Hock doesn't do it at any level. I really, really hope he can turn it around but to do that and he needs to do it fast. So if we play fantastic football today and get a good win I will hang fire, but then he would need to repeat and re[eat again giving us confidence
I see the writing on the wall for him also but bear in mind hock hadn't even the benefit of a normal pre season with the team. Most of our signings arriving when we'd finished what were mainly piss poor friendlies. He does deserve a chance
Today's line-up and still starting with Murphy and Austin still the same formation he needs sacking end of.
Man alive, Hock really is a stubborn fool ... I can't believe he's gone with the same midfield and formation, and dropping Cooper!! Oh fcuking dear ... this midfield is going to be 20 yards off the strikers most time, nobody getting into the box to make the extra man, and once again no width to put crosses in ... then again wingers are dead!!
I NEVER want Leeds to lose but I find myself not caring today, what will it take for Cellino and Hockaday to see none of this is working.
ristac, a damn good hiding unfortunately, and it needs to happen sooner rather than later or we'll be well in trouble by the time Hock goes
Also, his selection contradicts his talk ... he strongly stated that players need to prove themselves worthy of getting in his team, and players who play well will stay in the team ... well, Cooper has been better than Pearce, so don't understand why he's been dropped ... Hock said he hasn't decided on a skipper yet, and Pearce was looking after the armband in the meantime ... fcuking confused.com me
This will be the tenth time I've mentioned this, but like I said before why give Pearce the captaincy when he's only the 3rd best CH we have, stupid. Bellusci and cooper will be a solid stopping partnership and base. Why play Pearce instead of Cooper ...... because he gave the armband to Pearce. Ridiculous and thats why he shouldn't be doing the job ffs
Fully agree, chaps. No idea why Pearce has got the nod. Perhaps he does good blow jobs or something. Certainly nothing that's happened on the field demands his selection.
