Punters placing their bets early for Friday’s Ebor Meeting action are likely to find themselves with some Rule 4 deductions by the time they come to collect their winnings as a significant change in the going will see wholesale withdrawals. (Currently raining in E. Yorkshire, more forecast overnight) Interesting in the opener that Dolphin Village was withdrawn from the first day 2m race to take this option but his jockey’s claim is the only difference between him and progressive Gabrial The Hero; however, Stomachion let me down last time so will probably pop up here as I go with Luca Cumani’s Semeen. At Goodwood, Cavalryman disposed of three of today’s rivals and I see no reason why he should not do so again. This is a step up in class for Listed winners Pale Mimosa and High Jinx and I expect the battle-hardened Godolphin eight-year-old to come out on top for Kieren Fallon. The City Of York Stakes looks as wide open as a handicap and is easily passed over, leading to the main event of the day. The weather could have a big influence in the Nunthorpe but if it stays dry enough, Sole Power is a worthy favourite. I have given up on Hot Streak but it would be wise to take a look at French raider Rangali if the ground eases. Extortionist changed tactics last time and was held at bay by Take Cover with a couple of the others behind so both of them could be up to winning this is the proven Group 1 performers like Shea Shea fail to fire. As I did Extortionist at Goodwood, I will give him another chance. If the ground goes soft, the rest of the meeting is a no bet.
Munaaser my best bet of the day in the lucky last at York, price is **** but the horse doesn't know that. Get on now! Edit: I see Boris has already talked him up ........ well he is correctomundo
Have just backed Pale Mimosa in the long distance cup but now regret it and wish had done a Estimate reading in to the race more oh well!!
I worry that three races in just over a month may catch up with Cavalryman tomorrow. If he can replicate his Goodwood Cup run then he should win this comfortably but it is incredibly hard to win two marathon races so close together. I'll be on Times Up each way. Has a good record in this race and usually comes to hand this time of year. Can't see him out the first three and think he can win if Cavalryman doesn't run up to his best
Surely you can forgive a horse one bad run and if you do Estimate shold be closer to 6/4 than 9/2 today? Was reportedly in season last time out. Having said that I think over 2 miles Pale Mimosa may have her beating at 7/2 and she's my tentative selection in a tricky looking affair. Unconvinced by cavalryman's form so watch him sluice home
Morning chaps Munaaser now best priced 9-4 ........... just saying Competition entries: not posted yet - Brough Tiger, Steve and Attivo
Might be worth a bet at 14s for the Cambridgeshire Reebok, if he wins today he could get cut to clear fav as it would confirm that he is back on the upgrade after being gelded. Risky though considering his early season hit and miss profile.
Gone for Satellite in the first, Haggas sure knows how to get a winner at this festival. 4 places on offer.
I really enjoyed that race. Pale Mimosa was obviously expected to win. Estimate was terrific given how poor she travelled.
Good start to the competition Stick - 2 winners and a fc Heavens Guest for me in the next, with a saver on Absolutely So
Happy with Pale Mimosa there. Looked the likeliest winner throughout and Estimate got going too late but clearly showed she's over the poor run last time out. Will chance the Power now
