Should look to the French league for strikers. Aboubacar or whatever his name is or the Turkish international who is the current Ligue 1 top scorer, got 16 or so goals last season too.. both are/were available for about £10m each. I do wish Bruce wasnt so fixated on British players... they're costing us an arm and a leg.. look abroad ffs!
Not sure about this comment. Rhodes is a natural goalscorer, and would almost certainly score goals at Premier League level given the service. I doubt expecting to pay less than £10m for him is realistic. If Rhodes ended up being a direct swap for Long in cash terms, I would be happy enough with that. Talk of a £15m buy out clause when Balotelli is going for £16m and you could likely get 2 proven top division strikers from European leagues for that same outlay does put a different perspective on it though. I cannot really see any likely prospects being available at other Premier League clubs, unless Arsenal let Campbell out on loan. Either way, we are desperate for another striker as I wouldn't fancy going 4 months relying on just Jelavic to smack em in. Happy enough with Ince and Aluko as no10's, but cannot see either getting more than 6 or 7 goals, even if they played every game up front.
Rhodes would be a great signing, he'll just be expensive (thanks Fulham). Dawson will sign too. You heard it here...fifth.
Rhodes would be an excellent addition but we must ensure we are not paying over the odds. I'm confident that Brucie has all bases covered should a move for Rhodes prove fruitless.
Aboubaker, as stated more than once, is supposedly on his way to Porto. But given the choice between a French top division guy and a proven championship striker I'd rather go for the championship striker. Foreign players often take an age to settle and there's also the matter of the African cup of nations, not to mention the fact that there's always the chance the foreign lad might not be any good in england, after all, every transfer, whether foreign or domestic is a gamble. Look at juan veron, brilliant in serie A, pants in the prem. Hernan Crespo, brilliant in serie A, average in the prem. Every transfer is a gamble, but at least British players don't need as much "settling time" as those from foreign leagues. Rhodes has an amazing scoring record in both league 1 and the championship and looks to be a natural finisher. How many strikers score more than 10/12 goals in the prem each season? Not that many, and those that do often cost a lot more than Rhodes may cost us. Definitely worth a gamble I reckon.
One thing about Rhodes is if your season goes completely tits up and you get relegated. If you keep hold of him you know you will have a striker who is guaranteed 20-30 goals to help get you back up
Id love rhodes to come i think he's solve our goal scoring problem. Why is everyone saying go abroad the french n turkish leagues arn't as good as the champ imo. I really hope Bruce gets him in.
From BRFC Forum "Words directly from a coach at Rovers tonight, whilst having a beer at a certain coloured bull at Old Langho: "He's gone, asked to speak to Hull this evening. 10m + 1m in add ons, still owe just under 5m to Hudd and they'll get 600k also for their sell on fee. Looking at a replacement around the 2.5m mark, with another 1m roughly to be spent on loaning a defender." If you ask me, a 3-4m return on Rhodes is garbage."
I was expecting at least £15M after he signed that new contract. I wouldn't be too happy if I were a Blackburn Rovers supporter. It's like City only getting £9M for Long.
Whispers building on twitter that BRFC have accepted a bid. He's reported to be on a big wedge, so let's see how much the kid wants to play at the top level when we discuss personals.
If there's any truth in the second bit of that, I wonder if that suggests that the rekindling of interest in Dawson is looking more positive.
Well, we've only got ONE at the moment so I guess we will need another two. Rhodes is good but is he worth 11.5 million quid? Will he form a partnership with Jelly? Perhaps we could offer Sagbo and Aluko as well as Bruce but I am given to understand that their Manager and Directors are not deaf, dumb and blind.
Ignoring the usual negativity about the club/players elsewhere in the post, this is the first time I have seen a positive comment for TigerRoo. Wow.
