Probably because he was lumbered with Javi Garcia and Rodwell (when fit) and they wern't good enough so he had to keep Yaya deeper. Just my opinion mind. After City sold De-Jong, they should of kept Barry to play with Fernadiniho against the better teams with Yaya to give a strong central 3. Same in the CL. Pellegrini has addressed it now, by signing Fernando.
I expect yaya will play forward a lot more now we have Fernando and Fernandinho to protect the back 4 but he's far from match fit,was very ineffectual at Newcastle last week
