Sadly if the person behind this is who I think it is he's clever enough to get around this.

I missed what has gone on here, but if it is that bad then mere apologies aren't enough. There are lines that should not be crossed. If they are then there are sanctions which can and should be used.

"I’m incredibly disappointed with one poster whom I hitherto respected who felt it reasonable to go after CJS over a number of days on our board, clearly with the intention of instigating a ‘meltdown’. I’m not saying that this individual made the offensive comments, but the environment in which they were made was established by his actions"

I'm not having that, read the thread again, it was normal ongoing banter that was no different to usual. there was no intention of instigating anything and I didn't comment on large swathes of it. (I have better things to do.!) the offensive comments made to CJS were made on our board not your 'banter thread'. and I didn't invite or encourage whoever that poster was to be involved. you guys need to decide what your description of 'banter' is between you and apply it to both ours and your board.! The use of the word 'meltdown' was in hindsight probably unwise and reading back now I would not have used that term. but it wasn't intended then in the way it now reflects.!

The comments made to CJS on our board were unacceptable, everyone accepts that.!

In retrospect I probably wrote the above statement whilst rather angry - however, as you point out yourself in hindsight you feel that some of the words you used were unwise, so it's clear that hindsight/retrospect is a wonderful thing on both counts.

Obviously he took your banter in the way in which it was intended - his responses show that - however, you did go after him over a number of days, something you haven't done to any of the rest of us, so I have to question your motives for doing so.

We don't have to decide what our definition of 'banter' is - we all know what is / isn't acceptable and those who indulge in this banter on both sides have done it for years now and are well versed in the creative abuse that we dole out to each other. The comments made by that tit the other day were, as we all agree, unacceptable and not within the realms of the banter we have all hitherto enjoyed. <ok>

One more thing Tinky Winky, stop putting ****ing full stops before exclamation marks.! - it's bloody annoying and grammatically chronic

What a shame its come to this, i always had the greatest respect for the Captain, i didn't see what was said, but for someone to leave a forum, someone so respected, it must have been bad.
I must say, your forum will never be the same without CJS, lets all hope he has a change of heart, and i for one, would be over the moon if he does.

Whilst I would agree with that sentiment, others clearly don't, as illustrated in this comment by P49 earlier in this thread.

There are some who hide bigotry, lack of respect, homophobia and racism under
the cloak of banter. Their answer is always that it's only a laugh and can't you
take it?
Then there are the ones who are twisted and use any forum to express their lack
of humanity.
I'm close to jacking it in on here because, simply, it's too unpleasant

Now I can say with all honesty i have never seen any racism on here from the usual protagonists, homophobia? Some do sail a little close sometimes but Homophobia? isn't that supposed to "hatred"

As you say there have been some timely debates regarding what defines 'banter' in the media today and the best definition I heard of it is "if it offends someone it isn't banter" maybe thats a rule we could all live by.

Just to clarify that, there is nothing you can say to me that will 'offend' me.! :emoticon-0173-middl

With regards the exclamation mark, I sincerely hope it really aggravates you.!! :D

You're right - others clearly don't, but then again those others, including P49, don't indulge in 'banter' anywhere near the likes of you, me, Rod, Gas etc. etc. And they have every right to expect that the football forum that they contribute too and in some cases moderate is not overrun by idiots making offensive comments left, right and centre.

We've got to remember that the majority of posters on both boards don't go anywhere near our 'banter'/Last Person/Rovers are down/Banksy's a c**t threads!

There's no racism on here any more, now that APL is no longer about which is obviously a Brucey bonus.

I'm similar to you in that there's nothing said that could genuinely offend me - for example, I never actually read Massive's 'I hope you die a slow death' comment (it was actually Lanny stitching him up by telling me about it after it was deleted - ditches for snitches <laugh>). Obviously, comments like that are offensive and have no place on a football forum, but they don't personally offend me. Him blowing his top and getting banned was funny as f**, though :)

I can't get offended by anonymous people sat behind a keyboard I've never met - it's just not possible. But I fully understand why others, including CJS, would.

And this: .! - it is slightly aggravating but it's also the mark of a moron, so I realise that you can't help it! :emoticon-0128-hi:

I might be a bit thick here, but isn't an IP address a computer not where it's routed from? Like IP adress is different to my wife's even though we share the same internet router.
