I like what I've seen of Negredo. Think he could be a 30 goals a Season striker if he got the games.

Such a shame we didn't land Higuain. He could be a very useful player for us.

Still think Huntelaar would be an excellent option. Still has 2-3 good years at the top in him. Maybe more.

Apparently, he cannot be good enough for us if he is only 3rd/4th choice at one our rivals.... We have Sanogo, much better!

Higuain is supposedly a lazy sh*t though, as is Balotelli and Benzema. People need to decide what they want. If you would like an out and out finisher then there are plenty of better options that OG but the fact is that Wenger's formation requires a unit up front to bring others into play. We already have Theo, Alexis, Podolski and Campbell who can fulfill the smaller man role up front when required so I guess what people want is a better version of Giroud. Reality check is that there aren't a huge amount of big lads who are better than him at doing what he does and at finishing. Mandzukic, Dzeko and Negredo have all been mooted but none, to me, are noticeably better. If offered the chance I'd swap him for the first two but I wouldn't bother if we had to pay £20m+.

Unless we decide to completely alter our style of play (no chance) then Giroud will lead our line for the foreseeable future.

Dzeko I think does everything Giroud does but isn't quite as slow and is a better finisher. There's never been any chance of signing him though

Utter nonsense. Where has this fallacy come from that teams 'need' a 'unit' up front to suit their play to bring smaller quicker attackers to the fore? We only play that way because we have Giroud up front.

Did Liverpools tiny attackers last season need a big unit up front who held up the ball?

Do Barca's team of midget attackers ever have a big unit up front who holds the ball up?

We don't need a big unit up front... it's just convenient to say we do because that's what we're stuck with as our first choice striker right now.

I didn't say we needed a unit, but the system we employ utilises one. If we want to play like Barca (something we tried and failed miserably with) then we'd need to buy more than a new forward to make it work. Both clubs you listed stand out because they had world class forwards who come along once in a blue moon and can probably slot into any team.

I normally ignore what you say due to your constant negativity but, in homage to you, I do plan to use bold and italics far more in my posts. Make me feel like a big man.

Enjoy the bold and italics... it's fun. You forgot about underlining though...

So are you saying that unless a team has a world class forward, the only other option is to have a big man up top?

You're saying we need Giroud because we play a system that utilises a hold up target man.

I'm saying we play a system that utilises a hold up target man simply because that's all we've really got up front.

    Let's agree to disagree.

No, not at all but we play a system that likes having a large player with his back to goal bringing our attacking midfielders into play. If we wanted to we have a myriad of smaller forwards who we could use. Theo, Pod, Sanchez could all be utilised to try a different style but Wenger seems to like what he has. Maybe he lacks faith in the others to do a job or maybe he thinks the rest of the team won't support that as things stand. Either way he has his plan and doesn't look like he's deviating from it.

I reckon we should change our style of playing....no hold up player and then we can use

Walcott, Sanchez, Oxo, Cambell for our top 4....with podolski and giroud as plan B.

Because we base our views on more than just two games maybe?

I guess because he was shocking in the Besiktas game and we have some big games coming up in the next few weeks.

Giroud wasn't great, but offensively neither were Sanchez, Ramsey or Cazorla. Given that their team were pretty hopeless offensively as well, I suspect the quality of the pitch was responsible for a lot of the poor control and misplaced passes.

I think I would like to see them play a few more games on a decent pitch before deciding to change the entire system, particularly for one that we have tried and rejected in the past.

If you put it that way then it is a bit scarry. AW must have a trick up his sleeves, surely. I still think it is between us and Liverpool for 3rd and 4th berth.

Yeah but you could also say: Giroud & Walcott/Podolski/Sanchez if being realistic. If, however, you want to pick out each team's dodgy strikers then Welbeck, Torres, Borini etc.

Not saying I don't want a striker, just whoever wrote that list is a penis.
