Done mine now. When it comes to giving, it's entirely up to the individual. There are thousands of deserving causes out there. People do what they can.

Yeah of course, to be fair I'm choosing to not donate as I already do a regular gift to CRUK by direct debit as I used to fundraise for them door-to-door.

I wasn't intending any disrespect in the slightest. Yes, I suppose one or two people might take it so, if they don't read my post properly but instead jump to conclusions. Anyone who has read my posts knows I never set out to offend. If I have done so then apologies all round.

Of course there are people out there who would notice the absence of £3, but I'm not talking to them, unless they still want to give. And good on them if they do. I'm talking to the hugely significant bunch where £3 isn't a problem but who don't donate simply because they don't get around to it. All I'm suggesting is that instead of forgetting, that we make a point of getting around to it. Me included.

Remember Live Aid, way back in the 1980's..? Superb cause wasn't it. But it only raised the money it did because Bob Geldof reminded people every 5 minutes that they must dip their hands in their pockets. And he did offend people - but they still paid. I'm not suggesting in the slightest that we remind people every 5 minutes, or use his method, but I would like it if the occasion doesn't pass by and a odd Saints fan misses the opportunity to pass over £3 when they fully intended to do so. And only if they could afford it. That's all.

You have a fair point there. In fact, I only remembered to donate after reading the exchange.

And then it was only after I had done so that I remember I also have a direct-debit to CRUK! Ah well, it's a good cause.

Apparently my twitmeister tweeted this last night. Or something. And got some kind of "retweet" response. I don't get the technology at all. I'd still be using carrier pigeons if I could. Ones that walked rather than doing all that "flying" malarkey.

I'd love him to get to his target. He deserves to, given that he's probably going to knacker himself properly doing it.

I tend to give small sums to anyone who asks, but we do have a few similar requests on here and I thought I'd give some a miss, but hell this is Franny. Would feel very sorry if he didn't raise a decent sum.

And TSS I wasn't saying that I took offence, just it could of been misconstrued as assuming everyones financial position. For what it's worth I agree about how alot of people who can do it, don't due to simply forgetting.

No, I know you weren't, and I didn't imply that in my response either. The whole point of writing my initial post was that, 1] It's obviously a good cause, so if one can afford it, why not donate..? 2] Franny is in danger of doing himself a mischief. 3] Because he's not exactly MLT or Eddie Izzard, he's also in danger of not catching the attention of people outside of football [where the real money will be generated] and not making his £1M. I'd like to see him overshoot it by double or treble the projected amount. 4] I just wanted people to think and suggest to themselves that if they were going to give over £3, they do it pronto rather than let the moment pass. We've all unintentionally done that, I'm sure.

No, it was a letter, if memory serves-quite a few years ago now. Could I spare £2 a month. Of course. And every so often they ask if I wouldn't mind just adding a couple of quid on to my monthly payment. And before you know what's happened, you are being fleeced- for a good cause, of course!<laugh>

Agree on most points, I think it needs more national media coverage, I might email into BBC/SSN and try and get them to do a piece on it.

Sounds about right :) when we done it on doors though the minimum we could take was £8 p/m. So many people used to say well why do your letters ask for £2 and you're knocking my door asking for 4x times that! <laugh>

Yeah I mean national media though, like it would be nice if it was on the BBC website.

Well Frannie has completed 42 miles on day 1 and stopped off at Hartlepool United as a bonus. Hope Jeff Shelling has made a donation. I can't imagine walking 42 miles let alone running it!

It's Jeff Stelling, but who cares.

After my talk the other day about seizing the moment and donating rather than putting it off, I got around to it last night :)
I'd been so keen to remind people that I forgot to do it myself. Anyway, done now.
42 miles is astonishing. By my reckoning he's got to average 39/40 miles a day, so 42 is great.

It's a tablet but it still does a sort of predictive text. Trouble is I don't always realise and just assume it's put what I typed. :steam:
