I don't know if dumbing down is the right way to look at things, but surely something had to be amiss when the marks get so high a new grade has to be added above the existing A-grade to cope. Was it not the case that the top few percentile of all passes got an A-grade, the next group got a B-grade and everyone else down to the allotted pass mark got a C, below that a narrow failure was a D-grade further away was E and really bad was unclassified. As it is my little angel got her results today and now has 13 GCSEs (4 As, 6 Bs, 2 Cs and a distinction from a different examination board). I am very happy with these results. Senhorita want's to go for a curry to celebrate.
My grandson got 8 A* plus 2 A's but he's not smart enough to support Watford as his main team (Spurs).!!!
Firstly - excellent stuff and congrats to your daughter Your other points are fair but as I just don't like the way that this all happens on the day the results come out. Just let the kids celebrate for heaven's sake.
Well, my niece only did 2 this year (all the rest next year of course) getting B in biology and A in maths. Quite the proud uncle!
Our education is very different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Iceland#Upper_secondary is a good explaination. Little Ak is in upper secondary.
He has been to more home & away games with me watching Watford than he has seen Spurs play, I'm certainly doing my best to teach him the error of his young ways. Confession time - I was a Spurs supporter until I met my girlfriends family who were hornets mad. I had to change to Watford to get the girl. The girlfriend is my wife of 42 years and we are both season ticket holders.
My son was very non-committal towards Watford for many years. It didn't help that the time that I was taking him to Vicarage Road to get him interested coincided with our fall from grace under Bassett, Harrison, Lee & Perryman. He gave up coming and was only persuaded to return when GT assumed the reigns for the second time. Couple of successful seasons and a party at Wembley later, he was (and remains) hooked. Nothing like a bit of success eh.......
I'm in the Charente Maritime, in the heart of Pineau country, but the vineyard I went to is in the Gironde.
My youngest got his GCSE results, but due to the limitations caused by having Asperger's Syndrome, he took fewer subjects. Also, he did a different English qualification which he still needs to complete, but he'll do that at the FE college on the island. The main thing was that he got the required grades to do the course he wanted at college.
I could murder a glass of Pineau de charente at the moment. Perhaps they should serve it in the Rookery bar?
Good morning from a mild Weston-super-Mare! Sunny day promised for today, I hope so, I have a full load of washing in the machine almost ready to hang out! Have a good day!
Morning all.... I have a 7.30 app with a chiropractor... I must be mad, semi-retired, or desperate.....
