We signed Cuellar because we wanted a CB Leroy Fer is a box to box attacking midfielder so not a replacement.
I would have thought that he was on about that if we need three or four promotions (aka as the West Brom policy) for it all to come together, so be it.
Great signing for us Good age, lots of energy and an upgrade in the Central Midfield area With Mutch, Fer, Barton and Faurlin in CM, we look a lot stronger in that department
He was our best player and as long as he stays fit you have yourselves a real bargain there........I wish him well ...
A real bargain at 7 and a half million? I'm not so sure mate. I think the money we're splashing on players is getting out of control again. We're still not thinking and behaving like a small Club. I'm not complaining about the actual players we've brought in but Tony's got to call a halt to it now before it ends up being Sparkless era part II.
Come on Swords, in today's market picking up a full International at 7.5 million is a bargain. Don't forget we will get 100+ million this season, the same again next year if we stay up and so on. That's more than enough to cover the small signing fees we're paying and the more sensible wages we now offer. It will all balance itself out within a few years, as long as we stay up.
I am beginning to think the same. Mind you, Vargas and Isla are loans and Ferdinand was a free. I wonder, are we are still in to buy the Icelander?
Interesting. I've been trying to hold the excitement and hoping to high heaven that we are not doing that again. It feels different but only points on the board will tell whether this further gamble of Tony's has paid off or not. I think we will be ok but I commend all of us for having realistic expectations ie survival or a little bit better if we can with the 'right sort' of players we are now signing.
One good thing is that all of these players have good resale value, apart from Rio who was free anyway.
It would be interesting to understand whether savings have been made from the departures of Cesar, Granero, Mbia, Diakite, Park, O'Neill and a few others compared with the wages of Ferdinand, Caulker, Mutch etc.
I can understand the worry over the amount we have spent - about £20m now I reckon. But the difference is this time we have spent money on young and hungry players with a point to prove. Last time we spent big on wages more than transfer fees on older players with big names.
**** off Swords you're not an economist and you ain't got a clue about our finances. Why do you want to question good ol diamond geezer Arry and our Tone. Both Mutch and Fer had quality seasons last year, just as Hoillett had at Blackburn. If you think there are any great players in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia that could have been picked up for far les you're hæving a tin bath. Our scouts are doping a fantastic job scouring their mobiles.
