Arteta, you know the guy who was leader and captain of Everton for years. And because he's injured the armband goes to Mertersacker, one of the most vocal guys out there. Ramsey has been a leader for Wales and is a leader for us. Wilshere, while tempermental, has leadership qualities. Chambers is already showing signs of being a composed leader, barking orders and organizing the defense. Rosicky is a big influence among the players and Flamini is very vocal and outspoken on the pitch.
True. It just pisses me off. Yes I think we need a new DM but I appreciate what he brings to us. Those assholes don't even remember that he helped carry us to Top 4 in his debut season and are rejoicing like we've won the league because our captain is injured while spewing vitriolic abuse at the players while suggesting inane bullshit that'll only happen in FIFA. I say **** those "fans." But at least Twitter will never be as bad as the Arsenal FB page. So many uneducated ****ing idiots who comment on that.
None of those have a patch on Kompany/Rooney/Gerrard/Terry in terms of leadership on the field imo. Mertesacker does a decent job from what I've seen, same with Wilshere but I just don't think they're near the names I've mentioned.
I find it amazing that you think you have the information to make a judgement on this about your own team, let alone Arsenal's. Are you assuming that leadership qualities are demonstrated by shouting on the pitch, or do you have to sleep with your team-mates' spouses before you show your true leadership qualities?
Rooney? You what? Throwing tantrums at your own club when they have no good players and also running around shouting 'f' words at the ref is not having leadership abilities
Who's the leader in the Man Utd team ? I saw **** all leadership when you lost to Swansea on Saturday.
Never mind what he does off the field, on the field there is no doubting his presence in the United squad. It's similar to Drogba at Chelsea. Perhaps not at the level of the other three I mentioned but I think he's more of a presence than anyone Arsenal have. Seriously, what are you going on about? Try and have a reasoned debate rather than act like a condescending tosser.
Being the big bollocks in the squad doesn't automatically make you a great captain, I was never a big fan of when we had Henry, Fabregas and Persie as captains
Rooney's presence is of petulance, arrogance and rudeness to referees. You think he's more of a leader than Mertesacker?
That wasn't condescending. You are the one acting superior and saying you know what a leader is, and telling us we haven't got one. I ask you how the f** you know, and I'm condescending? Simply repeatedly reasserting your opinion, and when you get challenged engaging in an ad hominem attack isn't a reasoned debate.
True, but I still think those players were good leaders. Players listened to them and they could organise things. It has nothing to do with referees, it's his presence within the United squad and like I said above players listen to him. It is condescending, you are quite clearly talking down to me as if you are correct. Of course I don't f**ing know, it's a debate on a football forum and it's my opinion, which I am entitled to voice. Why do I have to know the players personally to judeg the way they organise team mates and notice if they are listened to etc etc?
Football culture breeds these kind of people. Nobody stands up to them, you just get told "that's just the way things are, just ignore them". And the clubs themselves don't want to do **** about it because money is money to them. I've brought up such behaviour on here before and been told "yeah, nobody can do anything about it, so that's that" pretty much. Disgusting.
No one suggested you have to know the players personally, but you don't know what the players are saying to each other either in the dressing room or on the pitch. Assessing the quality of what they are shouting is impossible if you don't know what it is. John Terry could be shouting "Make me look good, or I'll have your missus after the game!" for all you know. The second thing is that you would have to show that leadership on the field is of significant importance. Some players don't even speak english anymore, and tactics are complex enough for most players not to be able to coach other players on the pitch, or at least for it to be unwise. So we are left with some kind of motivation, and I am wondering just how much more of this is necessary, or can be given by one player or another anyway. You have made an assertion that "Leadership" is a significant factor in making a team a contender in the title, and then saying you know our players well enough to judge that we haven't got it. I think that is dreadfully condescending, certainly more than me for asking how you know. Yet when challenged you can't say what it is these leaders are doing, nor can you say how you know our players don't do it. Now either put up or shut up. Just reasserting your insult to our team is trolling.
1) Again, I don't know, as I have already said, but I can give my opinion. It's not exactly rocket science to figure out the commanding figures on a football field, I certainly don't have to know the exact words being shouted ffs. You can carry on making jibes about Terry but he's won everything there is to win and his leadership ON THE PITCH is a massive part of our success. Going off on a tangent about what he's done has **** all to with his leadership. 2) For the third time, it's my opinion. An opinion that is probably shared by the majority of the general public bar you. Former pros, pundits and fans have often cited lack of leadership in many sides as being a reason for their shortcomings. You're acting as if I'm making some outrageous claim. As for 'insulting' your team, behave. Thank you Krome .
Many of our former sides, sure, but we're not talking about former sides. We're talking about this Arsenal team, playing in the PL in the 2014/15 season. This side has leadership in the form of Mertesacker, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere. And to a lesser extent Koscielny, Flamini, etc. Please don't act as if you know more than us about the team we support, because you don't.
That comment isn't aimed solely at Arsenal, it's about sides lacking leadership in general. I was only making that point to get across that it isn't far fetched to bring something like this up as TT suggests. I am not claiming to know more, I am voicing an opinion based on what I watch of Arsenal - which is a fair amount considering how often you are on TV, just like our other rivals. By all means disagree, but at least accept other people are going to have opinions on your team.
