Some amazing pictures here. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/lightbox/...hole-seen-along-lemond-rd-near-kim-photo.html A sinkhole, also known as a sink, sink-hole,[1] shakehole,[2] swallet, swallow hole, or doline (the different terms for sinkholes are often used interchangeably[3]), is a depression or hole in the ground caused by some form of collapse of the surface layer. Some are caused by karst processesâfor example, the chemical dissolution of carbonate rocks[4] or suffosion processes.[5] Sinkholes may vary in size from 1 to 600 m (3.3 to 2,000 ft) both in diameter and depth, and vary in form from soil-lined bowls to bedrock-edged chasms. Sinkholes may be formed gradually or suddenly, and are found worldwide.[6] Either that or alien activity underground.
It is truly amazing how the earth crumbles much like a soggy digestive biscuit after being dunked in a mug of Earl Grey tea. Life truly is incredible.
I find sinkholes incredibly fascinating Dev. I read an article in Nexus (available from all good leading retailers at £4.25) a while back and they are still as yet unexplained, much like everything about life to be honest. There is so much we don't know. I mean we do not even know the ultimate tensile strength of the humble garibaldi how can we dare to presume what life is all about.
Indeed Drew, i'm a big fan of holes of all kinds, maybe Jip could sticky this thread and we could re-visit it when an Hole Related news appears in the press. Not that much will though, I suspect the Government are none too keen on Joe Public examining these sinkholes in any great detail lest we rumble them.
