Who is the clinical striker that realistically we can bring in though? I'm not a huge fan of giroud but he isn't as awful as some make out. Once Walcott is back I would like to see a front 3 of Walcott, alexis and the ox.
Absolutely agree with this. I think Wenger knows this system can work well with a Giroud type to hold the ball up, make space and allow Ozil to feed Walcott/Sanchez. Bayern Munich had this exact same arrangement with Kroos supplying a Ribery, Mandzukic and Robben forward line. I don't think Mandzukic is a world beater either but he did put in big performances when needed. The big problem with Giroud is that he's actually not great under pressure. The Community shield goal against City was the first time he has ever scored against one of the big sides in England. I partly think its confidence with Giroud because he often does things that require a great deal if technical ability but when it comes to pulling the trigger he often mis hits or even fails to make contact with the ball. I'm surprised Wenger never went in for Manzukic or even Huntelaar. Either can do the Giroud role just as well but would also offer a little more danger inside the penalty box.
We missed out on Mandzukic unfortunately. Huntelaar is a good short term option. Dzeko could be an option.
But where do we get this player from? Who of that ilk is available? Everyone keeps saying we need a striker, but who can we realistically get?
Mandzukic, Costa, Balotelli, Benzema... Who are we to know who's available? It's easy to sit there and say there's no one better available. But two of those have already moved.
Personally I don't think Mandzukic is that much better than Giroud,Costa was always going to Chelsea,Balotelli would be one hell of a gamble and Benzema is not going to leave Real Madrid.
Costa was going to Chelsea because they paid for him just like we could have. Mandzukic is a cut above Giroud. He does things in games against good teams for a start. Balotelli is a top class footballer. Benzema, yeah might not leave but who are we to know. Those are just four off the top of my head. What about Huntelaar, Ba... There are many strikers out there.
I didn't just mean this window, there's been people saying top strikers arn't available ever since judas left
This concept that there is a top striker out there with a guaranteed 25-30 goals a season is ludicrous. We were beating ourselves up for not signing Negrado and Soldado, who both turned out to be lemons. Let's wait until everyone is back and fit, before we start talking about how rubbish our team is.
Mandzukic is a slightly better version of Giroud Costa was always Chavski bound Balotelli is a gamble and I'd rather not take that risk Benzema seems like he's not even available We need a striker in a different mold to Giroud. Bony could work.
I would as well! The fact that he is having a mare at City is nothing, Giroud would not get game time at City. Just amazes me why all these top players join citeh knowing it is a huge gamble and that may well be their last huge pay check... Jovetic is another one we were rumoured to be after before he joined City!
To be fair, Jovetic was £26m and Negredo was £21m, neither are top class and neither are cheap and the fact that the extra Sky money has filtered through to clubs I expect the value of both to have gone up, probably quite considerably. Do we really want to go in for players who are 3rd and 4th choice strikers our rivals only have a squad players ? If they're not first choice at City how can we justify them being first choice for us ? We are not a Man City who have been able to raid the market with little regard for value for a few years now. I'm with (probably a minority) a few others who think if we get the top quality DM we need it will give more protection for the midfield and allow greater creativity and more/better chances for the forwards, don't forget we've not had the pace up front for a while and with Walcott returning and the introduction of Alexis there's every chance the opportunities will come for Giroud/Campbell
