Yep, kneecaps are nasty ones without a doubt (and it entirely depends on the extent of the soft tissue injury), but there is at least proper bloodflow to the surrounding ligaments. Rupturing your cruciate also has a high chance of recurrence. There's actually a relatively recent developed technique to stop kneecap dislocations involving deepening the knee groove, so there are ways of improving it. The key though is the long-term damage it does to your ability. With a cruciate ligament injury you're unlikely to fully recover - an average of 5-10% loss of power in that leg, difficult to fully build up the muscle again, etc. Also there is statistically (bizarrely) a higher chance of cruciate ligament injury on your other leg after you have had one (because some people are more susceptible). Basically, with a cruciate ligament injury, there's no easy option. Look at what it did to Michael Owen. Fortunately, pace isn't really Snodders' asset though! Don't get me wrong, kneecap injury is nasty and (as we don't know the details) could be very, very nasty, but on balance this is better than a cruciate ligament injury as there is a higher chance of 100% recovery. It all depends really on information we don't know, admittedly. Mind you, the sports specialists are very good these days, especially the ones hired by the clubs so no doubt he'll be right as rain in any event. Here's hoping
Same injury ruined Jimmy Bullard. Nasty injury and one which i hope he fully recovers from not just for his career but his everyday life
As posted previous my girlfriend dislocated her knee cap on Christmas Eve and 8 months on she still can't run, jump or even kneel for longer than a minute or so, and hers wasn't a bad dislocation either it didn't damage any surrounding muscles/ligaments etc. Both doctors and physios when pressed about chance of full recovery and chane of recurring injury, said that knee injuries are impossible to predict, everyone recovers differently and knees are so complicated they can't make any accurate predictions. They said it could be years before it recovers properly, it could be 6 months, it might never, it might never happen again or could happen again tomorrow. It's just one of those where "TWT as always".
I wouldn't focus on the worst case scenario too much guys - football clubs are able to pay for extremely good specialists. Was it actually Barton that did it?
I said before I've done both knees twice now. First time took me 9 months to recover to a point where I could play football again. Then again I didnt have the best doctors and physios looking after me. It constantly plays on your mind though afterwards. Every little twist, turn or jar has me worrying. I've even felt my knee 'go' getting on a bike! That's how bad it can get. I hope though with the professional help that Snodgrass has, his recovery will be a damn sight better than mine was! Cold mornings are still be painful for me, 10 years on from my first and 4 since my last!
Professional sports people, in some cases at least, could have a better chance of recovery because of higher fitness and expert help.
Yes very true. But Snodgrass was a quick healer when he played for Leeds Utd. So fingers crossed that the same happens and we can see him back early in the New Year. Will be very useful for the run in hopefully. Get well soon Robert.
Here was me thinking our luck was changing! Not so..... What happened to our interest in Morgan Amif (whatshisname) looks as if he shall have to break the bank shortly to replace not only Long but Snoddy... Now that clubs know we've got the dough from Long they'll be looking to rip us off unless there is a unattached diamond out there... Get well soon Snoddy...chin up...
Wasn't one of the (many) problems for City with Bullard that he wasn't insured? I hope that's not the case with our players under the new management.
I don't think we need a replacement as we have Quinn, Boyd, Ince, Aluko and Brady who can all play on the wing. I'm very worried about Snodgrass though, dislocated kneecaps can be really bad and a full recovery is down to sheer luck really. I hope he recovers as he's a very good player and the £8M we paid could turn out to be a waste if he doesn't. If we are looking for a replacement then Bruce should give Trencin a ring and inquire about Moses Simon as I was really impressed with him and £2M is a decent fee in my opinion.
As said prior, in his 3 appearances Snodgrass has only played 20 minutes on the wing. He's been mainly used centrally which IMO is the position Brucey signed him for given the fact that's where he's played most and last season we were probably about as effective at attacking through the middle as a team of road cones. Wasn't there a stat posted on here the other day that we only played 7 through balls through the middle all season? Just to put that into context the average premier league side will play 7 through balls per match, never mind per season. Its my opinion that we drastically need to replace Snodgrass, not only because we are more than desperate for some guile and attacking threat in the middle but we're now left with a whopping great total of four players capable of playing central midfield - less than we had last season - with even more games to play. If we're planning on playing 3-5-2 predominantly that's at least 2 less than the bare minimum we need.
Jimmy's top tips for recovery: 1. get drunk 2. dance on nightclub tables which have ricketty legs 3. pick a fight with a club legend 4. do a shampoo ad 5. hire a Slovenian prostitute pre-season
You missed 'blag your way through a medical knowing you were injured and book your op with Dr Steadman before you actually sign and then in your first appearance take an innocuous challenge and then blame that for the existing injury'.
Yeah, we played 9 in the whole season. Taken from FourFourTwo's season preview: We definitely need someone else to play in midfield, as said earlier I'd look at Powell or Carroll on loan and then if Snodders comes back healthy next year we aren't too top heavy in there. I wonder if we'll see Brady get a run in that position tomorrow night assuming Robertson's travelled? Bruce has tried him there a couple of times over the last few years and I think his pace would be a big help through the middle.
