Don't think Snodgrass was ever brought in as a winger. In all his 3 apps so far I think he's spent about 20 minutes on the wing when we switched to 4-4-2 v Trencin. He's been started centrally to try and add some guile to our midfield. Like I said previously definitely needs replacing else we'll be about as impotent as a 100 year old man with a cholesterol problem again like last season.
I've only seen Trencin home game so couldn't make a proper judgement. We definitely need a '10' and possibly another centre midfielder.
Robert snodgrass ‏@robsnodgrass7 Gutted ....!!! But I will work as hard as I can to come back fitter and stronger.
Disaster. Considering we already had JL and we have lost SL it means we have hardly improved in he final half of the pitch. Just Ince, which won't cut it for a long season.
That's what I said but apparently, despite Long leaving, we are no worse off because Snodgrass wasn't here last season. But rather than 'hardly improved' I'd say we are considerably weaker. Long was a big player for us.
Surely now is the time for Sone Aluko, Stephen Quinn and Robbie Brady to stand and be counted . they all should be able to do 2 games a week with rotation
Brady and Aluko need to get match fit ASAP. And by match fit I mean back on their game... I can see some loan dealing now. It's a proper ****ter this one.
Agree, if there's any positive in this it's that it comes with the transfer window still open and that we still have season long loans available. Bruce said he put in offers for three players yesterday, I think now he'll be looking to get a fourth in on loan.
Dislocated knee cap and we made him walk off?!?! Wtf! This is potentially career ending. Even if his knee recovers to full strength so it doesn't keep recurring, and injury like this could ruin him as a player. There's no guarantees with knee injuries it's just time and luck. Anyone got a rope I can borrow?
It's certainly a knockback we could have done without and, unless the reason we bought him has disappeared, we need a quality replacement, quickly. The same goes for Long. Get that done and then we can resume the strengthening in depth that this has interrupted. The other players are not the answer, as their role was already a valued part of the game-plan
Totally agree. I very very much doubt this will happen once and I reckon he wont play another 50 games before he retires. I dont rate him as a player that we needed but of course this is a blow. So what will we see of him this season - last 5 games?
I was thinking this as well when the Physio 'straightened' his knee out... Had the same thing happen to me when I dislocated my shoulder and as a result it's still not right.
I agree that we need a number 10 rather than a winger as priority, especially with the system we play. Maybe Tom Carroll or Nick Powell could be loan options?
Sure he wasn't an out and out winger, I think he was taking corners for us though (or have I remembered wrong?) so he could help from the sides
Gutted for the bloke and feel really sorry for you guys. He's a top pro but has had some bad luck with injuries from challenges recently rather than being injury-prone from over-training. Good to know it's not a cruciate ligament though because assuming there's not too much significant soft tissue damage he should recover fully.
Was it actually Barton that did it? It might have looked innocuous but bear in mind these guys have history
One of the knee specialists in my office said that there is a 40-70% chance of recurrence with a dislocated kneecap and this chance increases if surgery is needed (which it appears he needs).
